Control and Quality

This approach provides finished drawings and specifications that can be furnished with increased accuracy and confidence, usually in less time than before. In addition, the computer provides many other advantages. If one dimension is changed that affects many others, all the dimensions will be changed automatically by the computer at the same time the initial change is made. [Pg.757]

It is of course possible that entering the initial three-dimensional geometry for various design concepts into a computer can be more time consuming than developing concept sketches with conventional long-hand methods. However, subsequent revisions and analyses of that geometry can be performed many times faster on computer than manually. [Pg.757]

For example, three-dimensional wire-frame models can be constructed to help visualize the product and serve as a framework for other modeling programs. (More details on wire frame and other modeling techniques are presented later in this chapter.) These wireframe models, which are constructed in three dimensions, can normally be viewed in orthographic, isometric, or perspective views, often at the same time. Changing one view alters all the other ones. Wire frames are easily modified, and many design variations can be constructed in a relatively short time. [Pg.757]

With a wire-frame model a designer can blend one shape into another while holding specific parameters. Thus, a wall section or volume of a product can be held constant while the shape changes incrementally over a given number of repetitions. This CAD approach often yields a potential configuration that would not have been possible to arrive [Pg.757]

Parts can be lined up on a common center and clearances be edited and verified from the available databases (see Appendix D). Many hours of cumbersome materials selection and cumbersome calculations can thus be eliminated. Moving parts can be incrementally or dynamically rotated about an axis and interferences be checked at each position. Color technology is a further benefit to the checking process, particularly in mechanical load profiles, the plastic melt temperature during processing, mechanical or geometric profiles, and others. For example, interferences can be more readily found when each part or position is in a different color. [Pg.758]

The surface tension of polymers (synthetic polymers such as plastics, biopolymers such as proteins and gelatin) is indeed of much interest in many areas. In industry where plastics are used, the adhesion of these materials to other materials (such as steel, glass) is of much interest. The adhesion process is very complex since the demand on quality and control is very high. This is also because adhesion systems are part of many life-sustaining processes (such as implants, etc.). The forces involved in adhesion need to be examined, and we will consider some typical examples in the following text. [Pg.126]

The importance of chemical innovation is not confined to chemical firms. It is equally important to the economy and to society as a whole. New technology provides the major improvements in productivity that help control inflation and that contribute to the nation s economic growth. At the same time, society needs new chemical technology to help solve many of the pressing problems of our time such as energy conservation and supply, production of food, preservation of environmental quality, and control of population growth. [Pg.207]

In fact, production of solid materials of high quality and controlled properties (specific polymorphs) with important added value, could transform the traditional brine-disposal cost in a potentially new profitable market reducing, moreover, the environmental problems of the brine disposal [10]. [Pg.269]

All manufacturers abide by the standards set by these organizations. Therefore with the exception of quality and control, one manufacturer s volumetric ware (of comparable type) should not be more accurate than another manufacturer s. It is important to keep these guidelines in mind so that ASTM standards are not allowed to be used as marketing hype. [Pg.86]

The first level of safety for quality and control is the construction of compressed gas cylinders. The specifications for their construction in North America is defined by Department of Transportation (DOT) and Canadian Transport Commission (CTC) regulations. Cylinders are made from carbon steel or alloy steel with seamless, brazed, or welded tubing that is formed by billeting (drawing flat... [Pg.255]

Test and acceptance criteria performed at critical steps of the manufacturing process are to be summarized to ensure that the process is controlled. For intermediates isolated during the process, information on their quality and control is to be listed. For protein macromolecules, stability data to support storage conditions is recommended. [Pg.385]

Among a highly diverse collection of study conduct service providers—from academic medical centers to dedicated and part-time independent investigative sites— SMOs appear well positioned to meet growing demands for faster development cycle time, improved data quality, and controlled clinical trial costs. Conceptually, SMOs vie to support their positioning through the following mechanisms ... [Pg.505]

Characterization and control of biological macromolecules requires a variety of analytical tools for detection of chemical and structural modifications. Attachment of a PEG moiety to the biomolecule results in an additional layer of complexity and often requires a unique set of analytical tools to ensure quality and control. In developing PEGylated biomolecules, three key attributes must be controlled to achieve the desired product PEG reagent quality, PEGylation chemistry and stability of the PEG moiety post conjugation. Each of these is described in detail in the following sections. [Pg.396]

On the European Community level, quality and control standards for water intended for human consumption are laid down in the Council directive 80/778/EEC (1980) and its amendments. The latest revision is laid down in the Council Directive 98/83/ EC (1998). Council Directive 80/778/EEC... [Pg.1509]

Machines with more sensing and control capabilities would certainly ease the work of operators and technicians and assure higher levels of quality and control over the produced seams. This is especially important for seams in the context of technical textiles, in which specific functional requirements may be imposed. It should be emphasised that monitoring and controlling of the sewing process itself is meant. [Pg.328]
