Theoretically, an almost infinite number of different grades can be produced in a high-pressure polyethylene plant, due to the high flexibility in polymerization conditions and the relative short transition times. In contrast to the lo v-pressure technology, where the polymerization is carried out by Ziegler/Natta, chromium, or metallocene catalysts, the high-pressure process can also use polar comonomers such as vinylacetate, acrylic acid, or N-butylacrylate to modify product properties. With all these opportunities, the resin producer can adjust the product portfolio to cover the market needs at the current economic environment. LDPE homopolymer resins with densities 0.917-0.934 g/cm at MFRs 0.15-100 g/10 min are available in the market. [Pg.89]


Paper Production and Properties. During the paper production process, the wood pulp is mixed into an aqueous slurry, which is poured onto a continuously moving wire mesh and drained by gravity. Additional water is then squee2ed out of the paper by a felt web pressed from above. This pressed side, referred to as the felt side, has smaller, finer fibers and is therefore smoother. Titanium dioxide (E171, Cl white 6) is a white, opaque mineral occurring naturally in three main forms rutile, anatase, and brookite. More than 4 million tons of titanium dioxide are produced per year and it is widely used for industrial applications (paints, inks, plastics, textiles) and in small amounts as a food colorant. ° "° Production and properties — Titanium oxide is mainly produced from ilmenite, a titaniferous ore (FeTiOj). Rutile and anatase are relatively pure titanium dioxide (Ti02) forms. Titanium oxide pigment is produced via chloride or sulfate processes via the treatment of the titanium oxide ore with chlorine gas or sulfuric acid, followed by a series of purification steps. High-purity anatase is preferred for utilization in the food industry. It may be coated with small amounts of alumina or silica to improve technological properties. [Pg.118]
