Product basis

For a coupled spin system, the matrix of the Liouvillian must be calculated in the basis set for the spin system. Usually this is a simple product basis, often called product operators, since the vectors in Liouville space are spm operators. The matrix elements can be calculated in various ways. The Liouvillian is the conmuitator with the Hamiltonian, so matrix elements can be calculated from the commutation rules of spin operators. Alternatively, the angular momentum properties of Liouville space can be used. In either case, the chemical shift temis are easily calculated, but the coupling temis (since they are products of operators) are more complex. In section B2.4.2.7. the Liouville matrix for the single-quantum transitions for an AB spin system is presented.

Another potentially large user of I DE is the Tennessee Valley Authority. TVA is in the final year of a three-year test of I DE at its AHen station (Memphis, Tennessee). If this faciUty begins using I DE on a production basis, and if one or two other TVA faciUties join in, the potential market for scrap tires would be enormous, consuming some or all of the tires generated in several states.

Regarding reactor sizes, a comparison of Eqs. 5.4 and 5.19 for a given duty and for s = 0 shows that an element of fluid reacts for the same length of time in the batch and in the plug flow reactor. Thus, the same volume of these reactors is needed to do a given job. Of course, on a long-term production basis we must correct the size requirement estimate to account for the shutdown time between batches. Still, it is easy to relate the performance capabilities of the batch reactor with the plug flow reactor.

Most powdered expls that are to be pressed are prepressed into pellets. The die of the loading tool permits closer tolerances and better finishes than are reasonable for cases that are loaded by direct pressing. Recent work on a production basis involving 5-fim spectra of 12CD3F has verified line-center frequency stability under deconvolution. Large numbers of experimental records of 12CD3F, simultaneously recorded with CO in the sample, were calibrated before and after deconvolution (point-simultaneous methods, Jansson algorithm). No systematic differences were detected in comparisons of the before and after frequencies of nonblended absorption lines. That is, the variance was consistent with the optomechanical precision of the spectrometer and the mean deviation summed to approximately zero, validating the frequency calibration of the deconvolved data.
