Production loading tools should be hardened (60 Rockwell C is common). The die should be ground, honed, and lapped or polished to an 8 or 16 rms micro-inch finish. Some claim better results if the final operation involves longitudinal rather than rotary motion... 

The usual loading press of about 10000 psi is well beyond the bursting strength of charge cups of any material that can be economically deep drawn. Hence, cups are supported by close fitting loading tools while being pressed. 

For this reason, loading tools should be made to fit the maximum outside diameter of the cup, within a few ten-thousandths of an inch. 

Most powdered expls that are to be pressed are prepressed into pellets. The die of the loading tool permits closer tolerances and better finishes than are reasonable for cases that are loaded by direct pressing. Exceptions are primer mixes, PETN, and LA, although LA is pelleted in Canada on a production basis... 

The tool shonld not be loaded nnless it is to be used immediately. A loaded tool should not be left nnattended, especially where it would be available to unauthorized persons. 

Q. Section 1926.302(e)(6) states, with regards to powder-actuated tools, that loaded tools shall not be left unattended. What is OSHA s definition of unattended under 1926.302 Would the definition of unattended in 1910.178(m)(5)(ii) for powered industrial trucks be applicable ... 

Not load powder-actuated tools until immediately before use, and never leave loaded tools unattended and... 

Weigh out the resin amount shown in the load list and load the reactor vial into the microwave cavity using the vial loading tool supplied with the system.
