Ukraine has five nuclear power stations with fifteen reactors with a total power output of 13.6 thousand MW (13 reactors of WWR type and 2 reactors of RBMK type in the Chernobyl NFS). In addition there are 47 thermal power stations with a total power output of 32.4 thousand MW, 6 large hydraulic power stations on the Dnieper and 55 small stations on other rivers. [Pg.966]

X MW in 1986, of the power produced in the same year. Biomass-fueled electric capacity and generation was 19.2% (4.9 x 10 MW) and 21.2% (23.7 X 10 MWh) respectively, of total nonutiUty capacity and generation. Biomass-fueled capacity experienced a 16% increase in 1986 over 1985, the same as natural gas, but it was not possible to determine the percentage of the total power production that was sold to the electric utiUties and used on-site. Total production should be substantially more than the excess sold to the electric utiUties. Overall, the chemical, paper, and lumber industries accounted for over one-half of the total nonutiUty capacity in 1986, and three states accounted for 45% of total nonutiUty generation, ie, Texas, 26% of total California, 12% of total and Louisiana, 7% of total. There were 2449 nonutiUty producers with operating faciUties in 1986, a 15.8% increase over 1985 75% capacity was intercoimected to electric utiUty systems. [Pg.41]

PV systems consist of arrays of cells that ate interconnected in panels or modules to increase total power output. Often the systems include sun-tracking equipment, as well as power-conditioning equipment to convert dc to ac. The systems can range in size from a simple one-panel, fixed-orientation unit to a vast field of modules that accurately track the movement of the sun. Electric utiUties in Europe, Japan, and the United States have hosted several experimental PV power plants. The largest to date was a 5.5-MW plant at Carrisa Plains, California, built by Siemens Solar Industries (formerly ARCO Solar). [Pg.104]

The voltage used for electro dialysis is about 1 V per membrane pair, and the current flux is of the order of 100 A/m of membrane surface. The total power requirement increases with the feedwater salt concentration, amounting to about 10 MW per m product water per 1000 ppm reduction in salinity. About half this power is required for separation and half for pumping. Many plant flow arrangements exist, and their description can be found, along with other details about the process, in References 68 and 69. Many ED plants, as large as 15,000 vsf jd, are in operation, reducing brackish water concentration typically by a factor of 3—4. [Pg.253]

Power to Operate a Screw Conveyor. The power required to operate a screw conveyor is dependent, to a large extent, on the handling characteristics of the material to be transported. Formulas for calculating power use empirically derived factors to account for the conveying characteristics of specific materials, the configuration of the screw, and the beating friction. These formulas have been developed by CEMA and can be found ia the hterature (24,25) and ia engineering handbooks. It is assumed that the total power is equal to the sum of the power required to overcome friction and the power required to transport the material. [Pg.158]

Figure 10-123 shows a typical power consumption in thrust bearings as a function of unit speed. Tne total power loss is usually about 0.8-10 percent of the total rate power of the unit. New vector lube bearings reduce the horsepower loss by as much as 30 percent. In large vertical pumps, thrust bearings take not only the load caused by... [Pg.945]

Operating costs will include 5 to 10 percent of one worker s time, plus power and fuel required. Yearly maintenance costs will range From 50 to 10 percent of total installed costs. Total power for fans, dr er drive, and feed and prodirct conveyors will be in the range of 0.5 D to 1.0 D". Thermal efficiency of a high-temperature direc t-heat rotary dryer will range from 55 to 75 percent and, with steam-heated air, from 30 to 55 percent. [Pg.1204]

The total power required to drive a rotaiy lain or a dryer with lifters can be calculated by the following formulas (courtesy of ABB Raymond). For a rotaiy lain or calciner without lifters,... [Pg.1208]

Drying Fhiidized-bed units for drying solids, particularly coal, cement, rock, and limestone, are in general acceptance. Economic-considerations make these units particularly attrac tive when large tonnages of solids are to be handled. Fuel requirements are 3.3 to 4.2 MJ/kg (1500 to 1900 Btu/lb of water removed), and total power for blowers, feeders, etc., is about 0.08 kWh/kg of water removed. The maximum-sized feed is 6 cm (IV2 in) X 0 coal. One of the major advantages of this type of dryer is the close control of conditions so that a predeterminea amount of free moisture may be left with the solids to... [Pg.1575]

The development of improved supports and drive mechanisms has allowed gyratory crushers to take over most large hard-ore and mineral-crushing applications. The largest expense of these units is in relining them. Operation is intermittent so power demand is high, but the total power cost is not great. [Pg.1842]

The gas turbine in the simple cycle mode consists of a compressor (axial or centrifugal) that compresses the air, a combustor that heats the air at constant pressure and a turbine that expands the high pressure and high temperature combustion gases and produces power to run the compressor and through a mechanical coupling to the driven equipment. The power required to compress the gases varies from about 40-60 percent of the total power produced by the turbine. [Pg.2507]

The gas turbine is a high-volume air machine. The compressor air power required is usually between 50-70 percent of the total power produced by the turbine. Thus, the ambient temperature affects the output of the gas turbine. On hot days, the gas turbine produces less output than on cold days. In dry climates, the use of evaporative cooling in the gas turbine decreases the effective inlet temperature and increases the power output of the unit. [Pg.2516]

A train that generates only eleetrieity from the hot flue gas is ealled a Total Power Generation (TPG) train. A TPG train eonsists of a power reeovery expander, gear, generator, and sometimes a steam turbine (Figure 6-39). The valve arrangement for a TPG train requires speeial attention beeause the train operation and the proeess operation are independent. [Pg.377]

When two six-blade open turbines are installed on the same shaft and the spaeing between the two impellers (vertieal distanee between the bottom edges of the two turbines) is at least equal to D, the total power is 1.9 times a single flat-blade impeller. Eor two six-blade pitehed-blade (45°) turbines, the power is about 1.9 times that of a single pitehed-blade impeller. [Pg.584]
