Alcohol functions have also been introduced via hydrosilylation reactions, for example, the reaction of T8[OSiMe2H]8 with allyl alcohol and allyloxy ethanol (Table 19). In the first case, it has been postulated that the compound T8[OSiMe2 (CH2)30H]8 is not very stable due to back-biting of the -OH groups on the silicon corners (Figure 31). Nevertheless, it reacts with polymers such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone to give polymer hybrids (Table 19, entries 4 and 5). [Pg.55]

XRD analysis of the solid product showed three main peaks at 28.5 , 47.4 and 56.3 , which indicated that pure crystalline CuCl was formed [3]. Several well-known dispersants polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), sodium hexameta phosphate (SHP), the sodium salt of EDTA (EDTA-Na), sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS), and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), were introduced to obtain a highly dispersed catalyst. The X-ray patterns obtained with these were basically the same as the patterns obtained with the solids prepared in the other experiments described here. [Pg.326]

The viscosity of an emulsion can be of crucial importance for its stability, especially the viscosity of the external phase. A high viscosity reduces creaming and also lessens the tendency of particles to coalescence and produce phase separation. Examples of the widely used viscosity-imparting agents are alginates, bentonite, carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, hydroxypropylcellulose, and carbomer. [Pg.270]

In order to evaluate the catalytic characteristics of colloidal platinum, a comparison of the efficiency of Pt nanoparticles in the quasi-homogeneous reaction shown in Equation 3.7, with that of supported colloids of the same charge and of a conventional heterogeneous platinum catalyst was performed. The quasi-homogeneous colloidal system surpassed the conventional catalyst in turnover frequency by a factor of 3 [157], Enantioselectivity of the reaction (Equation 3.7) in the presence of polyvinyl-pyrrolidone as stabilizer has been studied by Bradley et al. [158,159], who observed that the presence of HC1 in as-prepared cinchona alkaloids modified Pt sols had a marked effect on the rate and reproducibility [158], Removal of HC1 by dialysis improved the performance of the catalysts in both rate and reproducibility. These purified colloidal catalysts can serve as reliable... [Pg.80]

Consider using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), which is widely used because of its biological compatibility, low toxicity, high complexing power, and its inert behavior toward salts, acids, and thermal degradation [21]. [Pg.255]

Hydroxyethyl cellulose (A) or a mixture of carboxymethyl cellulose/ polyvinyl pyrrolidone (B) did not affect sperm penetration. These polymers do not contain a hydrophobic moiety. [Pg.221]

Protein drugs have been formulated with excipients intended to stabilize the protein in the milieu of the pharmaceutical product. It has long been known that a variety of low molecular weight compounds have the effect of preserving the activity of proteins and enzymes in solution. These include simple salts, buffer salts and polyhydroxylated compounds such as glycerol, mannitol, sucrose and polyethylene glycols. Certain biocompatible polymers have also been applied for this purpose such as polysaccharides and synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone and even nonionic surfactants. [Pg.39]

Deionized water (720 g), sodium lauryl sulfate (4.3 g), dioctanoyl peroxide (40 g), and acetone (133 g) were emulsified using an ultrasonic probe for 10 minutes. The step 1 polystyrene seed (48.0 g seed, 578 g latex) was added to the emulsion together with lauryl sulfate (0.8 g) and acetone (29.6 g). The mixture was transferred to a flask and left to agitate at approximately 25°C for 48 hours. Acetone was then removed and the solution added to a 5-liter double-walled glass reactor. The temperature was increased to 40°C while styrene (336 g) and divinyl benzene (0.88 g) were added drop-wise over approximately 60 minutes. After 4 hours the mixture was treated with deionized water (1200 g), potassium iodide (1.28 g), and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (18.48 g) with the temperature increased to 70°C. The polymerization continued for 6 hours at 70°C and 1 hour at 90°C. Styrene-based oligomer particles with a diameter of 1.7 pm and with a narrow size distribution were obtained. [Pg.469]

Iodophors are complexes of iodine with a surface-active agent such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP povidone-iodine). Iodophors retain the activity of iodine. They kill vegetative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, and lipid-containing viruses. They may be sporicidal upon prolonged exposure. Iodophors can be used as antiseptics or disinfectants, the latter containing more iodine. The amount of free iodine is low, but it is released as the solution is diluted. An iodophor solution must be diluted according to the manufacturer s directions to obtain full activity. [Pg.1096]

CEFTIN for oral suspension, when reconstituted with water, provides the equivalent of 125 mg or 250 mg of cefuroxime (as cefuroxime axetil) per 5 mL of suspension. CEFTIN for oral suspension contains the inactive ingredients polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30, stearic acid, sucrose, and tutti-frutti flavoring. [Pg.99]
