The lower limit of detection is 1 p.g/dm for sodium hexadecyl sulfonate, 2.5 p.g/dm for sodium dodecyl benzenesulfonate and 10 p.g/diW for sodium dodecyl sulfonate with sample volume of O.ldiW. The method proposed is highly sensitive, simple, rapid and guarantees environmental safety of analysis.

XRD analysis of the solid product showed three main peaks at 28.5 , 47.4 and 56.3 , which indicated that pure crystalline CuCl was formed [3]. Several well-known dispersants polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), sodium hexameta phosphate (SHP), the sodium salt of EDTA (EDTA-Na), sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS), and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), were introduced to obtain a highly dispersed catalyst. The X-ray patterns obtained with these were basically the same as the patterns obtained with the solids prepared in the other experiments described here.

Characterization of the polymer indicates that an application of sodium dodecyl sulfonate as anionic surfactant and sodium persulfate as initiator for both stages leads to a hemisphere particle...

Further evidence for three distinct modes of adsorption can be seen in the electrophoretic behavior of alumina in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfonate. Below 6 X 10 5M, the electrophoretic mobility is nearly independent of concentration, but at this concentration the slope of the mobility-us.-concentration curve abruptly changes. At 3 X 10"4M dodecyl sulfonate concentration, the electrophoretic mobility reverses its sign, indicating that the charge in the Stem layer now exceeds the surface charge in absolute magnitude.

Materials. The studies reported here have been made with monoiso-meric sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfonate and sodium decyl sulfonate prepared by Professor E. J. Eisenbraun of Oklahoma State University. The sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate was a commercial sample purchased from Research Organic/Research Inorganic Chemical Corp. All materials used for background solutions were prepared from reagent grade materials, and the water was distilled from permanganate. Solutions were prepared on a mass basis with corrections for buoyancy.

Similar estimates of species distribution have been made also for sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) (Somasundaran and Ananthapadmanabhan, 1979b), as shown in Fig. 2.8. 

Not all "neutral" molecules are neutral, in the sense that they usually have some polarity and an end or section that is more hydrophobic or hydrophilic than the rest of the molecule. Other "neutral" molecules in a mixture may be slightly different and advantage is taken of this. If a low concentration of a surfactant, such as sodium dodecyl sulfonate (one end hydrophobic, one end hydrophilic) is added to the system, these surfactant molecules at first stay separated. As their concentration increases, the hydrophobic ends tend to associate and they form small clusters called micelles, which have a hydrophilic outside (net negative charge) and a hydrophobic inside.
