Pipe fitters

Understanding the positions of sample and other measurement locations within the equipment is also important. The presence or absence of isolation valves needs to be identified. While isolation valves may be too large for effective sampling, their absence will require that pipe fitters add them such that sample valves can be connected. This must be done in advance of any test. If analysts assume that samples are from a liquid stream when they are vapor or that temperature measurements are within a bed instead of outside it, interpretation of results could be corrupted. Analysts should also develop an understanding of control transmitters and stations. The connection between these two may be difficult to identify at this level in fully computer-controlled units. 

Plant Sufficient personnel and supphes will be required for the test. Personnel may include additional operators, sample-gatherers, pipe fitters, and engineers. Upstream and downstream units need notification so that feed and product rates can be maintained. 

Figure 51.9 shows a typical relationship of auxiliary work to direct work for pipe-fitters doing a job that requires them to leave the shop and perform the operation in the field. 

A cover plate on a pump housing is held in place by eight bolts. A pipe fitter is instructed to repair the pump. The fitter removes all eight bolts only to find the cover plate stuck on the housing. A screwdriver is used to pry off the cover. The cover flies off suddenly, and toxic liquid sprays throughout the work area. Clearly the pump unit should have been isolated, drained, and cleaned before repair. There is, however, a better procedure for removing the cover plate. What is this procedure ... 

Facility personnel who perform testing and maintenance on fire protection equipment and systems must be experienced and knowledgeable in the systems and on the protocols for testing and maintenance. Knowledge can include work history, educational experience, craft certification, manufacturer certification, field verification, and job assessment and testing. Testing and maintenance personnel may be pump mechanics, pipe fitters, instrument technicians, electrical technicians, millwrights, fire protection personnel or other qualified personnel. 

On the other hand, cleaning the shell side requires pulling the entire bundle out of the shell. This is a massive undertaking requiring a special bundle pulling machine and a large crew of pipe fitters. Then comes the hard part, cleaning the bundle. 

Modifying the piping to eliminate chatter due to excessive pressure loss is rec-ommendable but is also usually the least desirable solution due to extended process downtime, modification cost and the required involvement of various tradesmen - pipe fitters, welders, inspectors and so forth. It can also simply be impossible due to the isometrics of the complete system. 

Thou shalt be pipe fitter, electrician, glass blower, leadburner, welder, office boy, carpenter and lab devil, for the sake of thy process.

Labor will be needed for construction of the plant and its operation. Skilled construction workers are usually brought in from outside the site area, but there should be an adequate pool of unskilled labor available locally, and labor suitable for training to operate the plant. Skilled craft workers such as electricians, welders, and pipe fitters will be needed for plant maintenance. Local labor laws, trade union customs, and restrictive practices must be considered when assessing the availability and suitability of the local labor for recruitment and training.

Flexible connectors need constant observation to check for separations. They are designed to prevent transmission of vibration, but they themselves are not immune to vibration problems. Watch for tears, wear spots, and separations. Replace with less severe bends, or reposition equipment to minimize misalignment. Make sure that all pipe fitters and installers know that flexible connectors are not to be used instead of pipe fittings. Their only purposes are to absorb vibrations and to correct for minor misalignment. 

Licensed electricians (for high tension work), welders (for high pressure vessels), machine and pipe fitters fabricators, riggers, skilled helpers and unskilled labour ... 

Plumbers and pipe fitters install pipes for water, heat, air conditioning and fire-extinguishing systems. The installation work includes various fixtures and appliances in bathrooms and kitchens. The plumbers also carry out alterations on existing piping and maintain and repair piping, meters and equipment in the piping systems. At clients homes, they open clogged drains with metal wires or alkaline chemicals.

Officials later conceded that there had been ten accidental deaths between May 1942, when mass production of Tabun began, and the end of the war. A pipe fitter will be required during the test to move the calibrated pressure gauge for the hydraulic survey. The refinery s mechanical department should be lined up to provide the services of this craftsman. 

Some occupations (not a complete list) for which eye protection should be routinely considered are carpenters, electricians, machinists, mechanics and repairers, millwrights, plumbers and pipe fitters, sheet metal workers and tinsmiths, assemblers, Sanders, grinding machine operators, lathe and milling machine operators, sawyers, welders, laborers, chemical process operators and handlers, and timber cutting and logging workers.. .. ... 

The pipe fitters can prepare themselves for the daily assembly by means of available 3D-views of the pipe route design in the CAD system. 

For the owner time was pressing, so it was decided to simplify the project structure. In the first place the owner brought in one of its own engineers to head up the operation. He already possessed the experience of several plant construction completions and turnovers, had developed a procedure and came armed with computer software to track the operation. An integrated team was formed, comprising staff from the owner and the EPCM contractor. The contracts with the construction contractors for the mechanical, piping, electrical and control and instrumentation disciplines were closed out as such, and instead these firms made available teams of pipe fitters, welders, electricians, etc., to be integrated into the owner-EPCM contractor team. Their services would be paid for on the basis of time spent at houriy rates. 

Flushing consists of a throughput of water of sufficient pressure, velocity and duration to remove any dirt and debris which has accumulated during construction. Obviously this task is minimized if care has been taken to close pipe ends temporarily with plastic caps and to encourage welders and pipe fitters not to use an open end as a handy receptacle for a box of welding electrodes or a spanner, which can be easily forgotten.
