In even larger caisson thickeners, the central column is sufficiently large to accommodate a discharge pump at the bottom. The discharge passes through the column and along the access walkway above the basin. Caisson thickeners can be built having diameters of up to 200 m. These often have an earth bottom. [Pg.322]

Ammonia is unloaded from the storage tank to either of the two fertilizer plants using three discharge pumps for 86 hours. [Pg.446]

Practical considerations of unloading play a major role in batch-mass reactors. For "low conversion reactors, a suitably sized dump line must be chosen, based on acceptable N2 dump pressure in the reactor, or discharge pump capability, as well as consideration for limiting reaction in the line between batches. [Pg.75]

A 50,000-gal tank was installed adjacent to the test area. This tank was equipped with an aerator, nutrient feed equipment, and a submersible discharge pump. The physical layout of this system was very similar to that shown in Figure 12.11. [Pg.364]

Another common laser class is that of gas lasers, which includes helium neon (HeNe) lasers, carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers, nitrogen lasers, and so on. The helium neon laser, widely used until the advent of the diode laser, was one of the first types developed and commercialized. As described above, it is a discharge-pumped gas laser, which generally produces an output measuring a few mW in power. [Pg.67]

Figure 12. Velocity trace with time for three different impeller types, A310fluidfoil,A200 axial flow turbine and RlOO radial flow turbine. The impellers are compared at equal discharge pumping capacity, equal diameter and at whatever speed is required to achieve this flow. The power required increases from left to right. Figure 12. Normally, the product made in a crystallizer is for customer use and, therefore, the product size must be carefully monitored in order to stay within the prescribed limits. Typically, the product from a crystallizer will be sampled every l-2h during conditions when the operation is monitored to make adjustments in product size or characteristics. Ideally, the best place to sample the product is before it enters the slurry discharge pump and preferably from the slurry discharge line. [Pg.137]

The simplest participants in chain reactions are atoms and radicals. These are now quite familiar entities. Hydrogen atoms may be generated in discharges, pumped along tubes, and allowed to raise wires to incandescence methyl radicals can be produced in furnaces and watched as they eat away mirrors of tellurium from the cooler walls of the exit channel. But at one time it was a very bold hypothesis to assume the intervention in ordinary chemical reactions of such unfamiliar species. [Pg.409]
