A counterpart of evidence that CCK agonists are anxiogenic is to answer the question of whether the CCK system is functionally implicated in non-provoked symptoms of panic or anxiety. It is conceivable that endogenous variations of central and/or peripheral CCK activity may be a neurochemical concomitant of anxiety. It is interesting to mention that serum concentrations of gastrin, a CCK-B agonist, fluctuate in correlation with self-reported tension, conflict, and anxiety in psychiatrically healthy men (M. The WR 1065 derivative WR 2721 has found considerable attention because it has been reported to be capable of selectively protecting normal vs malignant cells (Phillips 1980 Yuhas 1982). To convert WR 2721 into the reactive protector WR 1065, a phosphatase is required (Calabro-Jones et al. 1985 Smoluk et al. 1988a Purdie 1980). The lower pH in tumors and concomitant slower rate of drug uptake combined with their lower content of phosphatases has been suggested to be the basis of this selective protection (for the use of WR 2721 in the clinic see Hospers et al. 1999). Nebulisation is inefficient and therefore not appropriate for very small liquid samples. Introducing samples into the plasma in liquid form reduces the potential sensitivity because the analyte flux is limited by the amount of solvent that the plasma will tolerate. To circumvent these problems a variety of thermal and electrothermal vaporisation devices have been investigated. Two basic approaches are in use. The first involves indirect vaporisation of the sample in an electrothermal vaporiser, eg a carbon rod or tube furnace or heated metal filament as commonly used in atomic absorption spectrometry [41-43], The second involves inserting the sample into the base of the inductively coupled plasma on a carbon rod or metal filament support [44,45], Instrumentation is available from Perkin-Elmer, Thermoelectron, Phillips, Baird and Spectroanalytical Ltd. 

With an increase in dispersed-phase volume fraction, the viscosity of an emulsion increases. This increase in viscosity is linear at a low droplet concentration (McClements, 1999) the viscosity of an emulsion of milk fat globules in milk plasma increases linearly with fat content up to 30% (Bakshi and Smith, 1984 Kyazze and Starov, 2004), whereas the viscosity of low-fat milk (<2.0% fat) increases in a near linear fashion with fat content (Phillips et al., 1995). However, above a certain volume fraction of the dispersed phase, the droplets in emulsions are packed so closely that flow is impaired, giving the emulsion a gel-like character (McClements, 1999). For instance, the viscosity of cream increases rapidly with increasing fat content when the fat content is >50% (Prentice, 1968 Mulder Walstra, 1974). 

The samples were oxidized using a commercial plasma discharge unit (Plasmod registered trademark of Tegal Corporation, Richmond,California), which operates at 13.56 MHz and has a variable power output from 0 to 100 watts. A variable leak valve (Granville-Phillips Company, Boulder, Colorado), a three-way valve and other modifications were added to provide a better vacuum, to control the gas flow rate and to control the gas pressure.
