Partnership projects

Initiatives to establish a hydrogen infrastructure through Sustainable Development Technology Canada, building on the foundation s success in establishing successful, partnership projects.

The majority of the partnership projects funded through this program have been at the elementary and secondary level, though a few have been at the postsecondary level. On the educational side, they have involved... 

Out of these experiences with a substantial number of partnership projects, I have drawn some personal conclusions about what works and what doesn t. With an appreciative nod to Ben Franklin and his Poor Richard s Almanac, I ll try to group my conclusions under four familiar adages or aphorisms or proverbs. They may seem simplistic, but I truly believe reflection on them by anyone, whether from the educational sector or the private sector, interested in developing a partnership can help avoid some serious pitfalls. 

An alternate path is that of an independent consultant. This is most often accomplished through a sole proprietorship or a small partnership. Projects are secured as a result of technical expertise and networks related to people one knows. Independent consultants have more freedom in the type of work they do and in how they accomplish their consulting duties. The drawback, of course, is that the revenue stream may not be stable.

ABSTRACT This paper presents an analysis of communication systems in presence of random failures causing performance degradation, especially suitable for next generation core networks based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) proposed by Third Generation Partnership Project. In particular, core network signalling servers, namely the Call Session Control Frmctions (CSCF), are modelled as multi-state elements where each state corresponds to a different performance level of a single server. This approach is becoming more and more relevant to assess the Quality of Service offered by a telecom operator to its subscribers.

Clark and Wheelwright described types A through D. Type E is our addition to recognize the "partnership" project, which can produce its own set of issues. The table recognizes that any particular project can vary in terms of the product and process change involved. For example, an A-type project involves minor changes in both product and process dimensions. Type A products are like Rhino s releases or new menu items at Au Bon Pain. Changes of the A type could be either product- or process-directed, or both.

The SWISS-PROT database [36] release 40.44 (February, 2003) contains over 120 000 sequences of proteins with more than 44 million amino adds abstracted from about 100 000 references. Besides sequence data, bibHographical references, and taxonomy data, there are highly valuable annotations of information (e.g., protein function), a minimal level of redundancy, and a high level of integration with other databases (EMBL, PDB, PIR, etc.). The database was initiated in 1987 by a partnership between the Department of Medicinal Biochemistry of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and the EMBL. Now SWISS-PROT is driven as a joint project of the EMBL and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). 

The auto industry has estabbshed a cooperative program in the field, the Vehicle Recycling Partnership (VRP). In addition, some auto manufacturers have announced specific projects that include recycled mbber. Chrysler has announced that it is already using a mbber shield that incorporates cmmb mbber derived from scrap tires. Auto manufacturing companies have indicated a desire to expand the use of recycled post-consumer scrap mbber in their products. 

In this text, partnerships include alliances. Some companies prefer the alternate name. Partnerships are structured in many different ways. They may be project specific, commodity specific, or even company specific. Each company has its own qualification criteria. It is beyond the scope ol this book to go into detail on these because that is material for a text of its own. The intent here is to introduce the reader to the concept if it is not known and meld in the negotiarion modifiers for both neophyte and veteran... 

The DfE partnership will develop information to improve the understanding of the environmental and human health impacts of new and current materials that can be used to meet the fire safety requirements for circuit boards. Project partners include electronics manufacturers, component and board manufacturers, chemical companies, trade associations, environmental groups, universities and governments. The project will consider environmental and human health impacts that can occur throughout the life cycle of a material, from development and manufacture, through product use and end of life of the material or product. Stakeholders have expressed a particular interest in understanding the combustion products that could be formed during certain end of life scenarios. The list of active partners includes ... 

Materials chemistry proposals were jointly reviewed and split-funded, and in 1987 and 1988, 33 cooperative research projects were initiated. In 1989, the partnership was expanded to include the Division of Chemical and Thermal Systems (NSFs home for chemical engineering), and the program was renamed Materials Chemistry and Chemical Processing (MCCP). In 1989, 1990, and 1991, each of the three participating NSF divisions invested about three-quarters of a million dollars in additional... 

Second, partnerships between materials developers and end users must be facilitated and encouraged. In some cases, this step may mean an R D consortium between university researchers, a chemical or materials company, and a product manufacturer. The National Institute of Standards and Technology s Advanced Technology Program (NIST ATP) is a good model that should be expanded. Several projects that have been funded are examples of this integration of research-development-commercialization by universities, a materials supplier, and an end-user product manufacturer. 

The company is prepared to work in partnership, joint projects and/or contract R D or particular services.
