The writer, or user, of a PC package which is an unsupported interface to software from a major vendor, faces obvious dangers. Again, Breslow completely neglects hydrogen bonding interactions, but since he only studied alcohol-water mixtures, the enforced hydrophobic interactions will dominate the behaviour. Recently, also Diels-Alder reactions in dilute salt solutions in aqueous ethanol have been studied and minor rate increases have been observed Lubineau has demonstrated that addition of sugars can induce an extra acceleration of the aqueous Diels-Alder reaction . If the concentration of effective aromatic species does vary with acidity, as sometimes happens if the compound is substantially proto-nated, then the acidity-dependence of the rate will be less steep than usual, because the concentration of the active free base diminishes significantly with increasing acidity. This situation has been observed in certain cases ( 8.2). The fall in the concentration of the active species can be allowed for from a knowledge of its pK and the acidity function which, for the particular compound, gives the best measure of the acidity of the medium. Then the corrected acidity-dependence of the rate resembles that observed with compounds the concentration of which does not change significantly with acidity. The excess heat must be removed from the reaction. The rate and the equilibrium of reaction 1 depend gready upon pressure and temperature, because large volume changes take place. This reaction may only occur at a pressure that is below the pressure of ammonium carbamate at which dissociation begias or, conversely, the operating pressure of the reactor must be maintained above the vapor pressure of ammonium carbamate. Reaction 2 is endothermic by ca 31.4 kJ / mol (7.5 kcal/mol) of urea formed. Zinc. The electrowinning of zinc on a commercial scale started in 1915. Most newer faciUties are electrolytic plants. The success of the process results from the abiUty to handle complex ores and to produce, after purification of the electrolyte, high purity zinc cathodes at an acceptable cost. Over the years, there have been only minor changes in the chemistry of the process to improve zinc recovery and solution purification.
