Shampoos opaque

Pa.ste Shampoos. These shampoos represent thickened versions of opaque shampoos. They have a somewhat firm, cream-like consistency and are packaged in jars and/or tubes. Thickening of these systems is usually accompHshed through additions of stearate soaps and electrolytes. 

Opacifiers. Opaque shampoos are produced by incorporating high melting, wax-like, dispersible materials into their preparation. Some of these materials crystallize in such a fashion that they effect a pearlescence in the product. Opacifying agents found in shampoos include the glycol mono- and diesters, higher fatty alcohols such as cetyl and stearyl forms, stearate soaps, and latex copolymer emulsions.

Shampoos have been prepared in various forms, and have included systems that are thick and thin, clear and opaque, pourable Hquids, soflds, gels, pastes, powders, flakes, and aerosol types. In many cases, shampoos have been prepared and directed for various hair types, eg, normal, dry, damaged, and color treated. Most marketed shampoos (ca 1993) are primarily clear Hquid and opaque lotion types gel and paste forms also are available. Aerosol shampoos are available to the consumer however, their impact on the market has been limited to the dry shampoo aerosol. 

The wax glycol distearate is added to make shampoos opaque and pearlescent. It has tiny flakes that mix well with surfactants, and stay in solution. They also add shear-thinning qualities, making liquid hand soaps pump out of the bottle more easily. 

Agents that make a liquid appear more opaque, or pear-lescent. For example polystyrene latex is added to liquid detergents formulated for dishwashing or shampooing to give them a flat opaque appearance. See also Detergent. 

Properties of injection-molded parts can be unique. Given a metal or plastic s typical properties, injection molding imparts some of its own. Because of flow patterns, molecular orientation, and other factors, molded part properties are often different than those of the base material. An example of the benefits of orientation is the living hinge , the flexible plastic hinge foimd on spice, shampoo, and dental floss containers. Properties of injection-molded parts can be flexible or stiff, soft or hard, tough or brittle, clear or opaque, specific chemically resistant and flame retardant. Parts can be tinted, colored, plated with varions metals, and recycled. 

These products are used in shampoo, handsoaps, bath products, shaving creams and medicated ointments. Sodium lauryl sulfates are excellent fearners and provide good viscosity response. They are especially suited for opaque, pearlescent, or cream products. The various grades of sodium lauryl sulfate offer a wide variety of choices in developing optimum formulations.
