Candle filters. These consist of multiple high-temperature ceramic or sintered-metal candles fitted within a plenum and a nitrogen supply for online periodic back flushing. Captured particulate matter is discharged into a steel container through a rotary air lock. The particulates are processed in the MPT to ensure 5X decontamination. [Pg.64]

With ever-increasing frequency, authors also need to know how to format references to electronic sources (e.g., general Web sites, online periodicals, and online books). When this textbook was printed, such references were relatively uncommon. However, we briefly address references to general Web sites in exercise 17.13. For examples of other types of electronic sources and formatting expectations, consult a recent issue of your targeted journal or the most recent edition of The ACS Style Guide. [Pg.563]

Each category is further divided into books, articles, and Web documents. Note that many print articles are also available online, either through specific Web addresses or via online periodical databases. [Pg.148]

Aside from online periodicals and books, general Web sites containing a wide variety of information might need to be cited. Some sites are accessible by anyone, but many are accessible only by subscription. Reference styles for FTP and Telnet sites are similar to those for Web sites. Specific examples are given here for general Web sites and databases, stand-alone documents, unpublished conference proceedings, and electronic theses. [Pg.320]

Works presented at conferences or meetings can be cited in several formats, as discussed earlier in this chapter. Generally, published abstracts or proceedings can be cited as online books or as online periodicals. Materials from oral presentations, posters, or demonstrations that do not contain publication information should be cited as follows. [Pg.321]

Figure Bl.10.2. Schematic diagram of a counting experiment. The detector intercepts signals from the source. The output of the detector is amplified by a preamplifier and then shaped and amplified friitlier by an amplifier. The discriminator has variable lower and upper level tliresholds. If a signal from the amplifier exceeds tlie lower tlireshold while remaming below the upper tlireshold, a pulse is produced that can be registered by a preprogrammed counter. The contents of the counter can be periodically transferred to an online storage device for fiirther processing and analysis. The pulse shapes produced by each of the devices are shown schematically above tlieni. Figure Bl.10.2. Schematic diagram of a counting experiment. The detector intercepts signals from the source. Where an idle boiler is also subject to cleaning and inspection before going back online, these procedures usually are carried out at the end of the idle period to avoid the risk of corrosion to a clean boiler. [Pg.609]

Stand-alone online cleaning programs. The primary water treatment program is discontinued for a period until the foulant has been removed, after which the original program or a modification is reinstituted. [Pg.628]

For abstracts printed since 1967 (the eighth collective period and later), CA can be searched by computer online. For a discussion of online searching see pages. 1616, 1631. [Pg.1614]

The best way to leam if a compound is mentioned in the literature after the period covered by the latest semiannual formula index of CA is to use the online services (p. [Pg.1629]

However, if one lacks access to these, one may consult Chemical Titles and the keyword index (p. 1611) at the end of each issue of CA. In these cases, of course, it is necessary to know what name might be used for the compound. The name is not necessary for Index Chemicus (p. 1622) one consults the formula indexes. However, these methods are far from complete. Index Chemicus lists primarily new compounds, those which would not have been found in the earlier search. As for chemical Titles, the compound can be found only if it is mentioned in the title. The keyword indexes in CA are more complete, being based on internal subject matter as well as title, but they are by no means exhaustive. Furthermore, all three of these publications lag some distance behind the original journals. To locate all references to a compound after the period covered by the latest semiannual formula index of CA, it is necessary to use CAS-online. [Pg.1630]

A number of calculators are available on the Internet to estimate a patient s risk of developing breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has an online version of the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool that is considered to be the most authoritative and accurate standard (www.cancer.gov/ bcrisk-tool). The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool was designed for health professionals to project a women s individualized risk for invasive breast cancer over a 5-year period and over her lifetime. [Pg.1305]

If the catalyst degrades (e.g. as a result of coke formation on the surface), then a fixed-bed device will have to be taken off-line to regenerate the catalyst. This can either mean shutting down the plant or using a standby reactor. If a standby reactor is to be used, two reactors are periodically switched, keeping one online while the other is taken offline to regenerate the catalyst. Several reactors might be used in this way to maintain an overall operation that is... [Pg.129]

This online instrumental setup was applied for the 2D separation of fluorescein isothiocyanate-derivatized human urine the results are shown in Fig. 16.7. This separation used overlapped CZE runs, which means that two samples are injected on the column, one after the other, separated by a period of time that will allow the separation of the first-injection components from the second-injection components that are present in the capillary at any point prior to detection. This was accomplished by making an injection in a time interval of exactly half of the actual CZE run time. To overlap the CZE runs, an injection was made every 29 s. For the overlapping to work,... [Pg.374]

Inlet and outlet gases were analyzed online by a Micro GC equipped with four packed columns. The liquid organic and aqueous products were analyzed using an HP 5890 GC with capillary column DB-5 and an HP 5790 GC with Porapak Q packed column, respectively. The reactor wax withdrawn periodically was analyzed by a high-temperature HP5890 GC employing an alumina-clad column. [Pg.35]

After the activation period, the reactor temperature was decreased to 453 K, synthesis gas (H2 CO = 2 1) was introduced to the reactor, and the pressure was increased to 2.03 MPa (20.7 atm). The reactor temperature was increased to 493 K at a rate of 1 K/min, and the space velocity was maintained at 5 SL/h/gcat. The reaction products were continuously removed from the vapor space of the reactor and passed through two traps, a warm trap maintained at 373 K and a cold trap held at 273 K. The uncondensed vapor stream was reduced to atmospheric pressure through a letdown valve. The gas flow was measured using a wet test meter and analyzed by an online GC. The accumulated reactor liquid products were removed every 24 h by passing through a 2 pm sintered metal filter located below the liquid level in the CSTR. The conversions of CO and H2 were obtained by gas chromatography (GC) analysis (micro-GC equipped with thermal conductivity detectors) of the reactor exit gas mixture. The reaction products were collected in three traps maintained at different temperatures a hot trap (200°C), a warm trap (100°C), and a cold trap (0°C). The products were separated into different fractions (rewax, wax, oil, and aqueous) for quantification. However, the oil and wax fractions were mixed prior to GC analysis. [Pg.250]
