Capacity management

Overcrowding issues should be noted. Future occupant density is estimated when the ventilation system for a building is designed. When the actual number of occupants approaches or exceeds this occupant design capacity, managers may find that lAQ complaints increase. At that point, the outdoor air ventilation rate will have to be increased. However, the ventilation and cooling systems may not have sufficient capacity to handle the increased loads from the current use of the space. [Pg.204]

It is clear that the cost associated with inventory depends on the variance of demand during lead time. In such a case, the larger the demand variance, the greater the effect of lead time on safety stock. Now suppose orders to a fadlity came from two sources that differ in their demand variability. Suppose we provide priority to the higher demand variance orders and low priority to the low demand variance order what is the impact Note that, as shown analytically and illustrated with a numerical example in Chapter 4 on capacity management, if one set of orders receives a priority, the lead time for those orders will decrease. But, since the capacity level is unchanged, the lead time for the lower priority orders will increase. Thus, priorities are one mechanism to offer differentiated lead times across order streams and thus improve supply chain performance for spare parts. [Pg.137]

The major activities in the MFCS are illustrated in Figure 9.2. This is a hierarchical framework. The top level decisions are made first and then the increasingly detailed decisions of the lower levels are made. Note that the appropriate capacity management technique is used at the same time as each level of the plan is developed. [Pg.123]

There are four main issues that need to be addressed in our problem product management, capacity management, trading structure, clinical trials uncertainty. Two different outcomes Success/Failure) are considered in the clinical trials phase for each potential product. Overall, the multi-site capacity planning problem under uncertainty... [Pg.1098]

Wild (2002) says Capacity management is concerned with the matching of the capacity of the operating system and the demand placed on that system . Planning to match demand and capacity begins with the forecasting of what the demand is likely to be. [Pg.64]
