Directories of information on computerized sources, such as the Gale Directory of Databases (Gale Research Inc.) and the Mekler directory CD-ROMs in Print, give identification, coverage, content, and availability information for publicly available electronic files, as do many of the literature guides listed in the introduction to this entry. An example of a resource tool more limited in scope is the Environmental Software Directory (Donley Technologies). Articles and columns appearing in the information science literature [Online, Searcher, Database, CD-ROM Professional, and Information Today) can provide excellent reviews of new files and comparative studies on resources in specific subject areas. 

The ICCIDD has provided scientific leadership in a series of meetings with the WHO and UNICEF concerned with different technical aspects of control programs, such as the methods of assessment and the criteria for elimination (WHO/UNICEF/ICCIDD, 2001). Worldwide Offshore Accidenf Dafabank (WOAD) is one of the main sources for obtaining offshore accidenf-relafed information for public use. It is operated by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Norway. Pharmacopoeia publications provide a final important source of information for the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory authorities, and the healthcare professions. These are concerned with establishing quality standards. These publications include monographs that define specifications for the purity and identity of established pharmaceutical ingredients, both active and non-active, together with recognised analytical methods that may be used to evaluate them. The most relevant are the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur). 

CICADs are concise documents that provide summaries of the relevant scientific information concerning the potential effects of chemicals upon human health and/or the environment. They are usually based on selected national or regional evaluation documents or on existing EHCs. Before acceptance for publication as CICADs by IPCS, these documents undergo extensive peer review by internationally selected experts to ensure their completeness, accuracy in the way in which the original data are represented, and the validity of the conclusions drawn.
