New sources

The paper presents the results from systematic comparisons of contrast and resolution obtained with different types of radiation sources on steel thicknesses from 5 to 40 mm. These results have been taken into account with the definitions of the European standard for radiographic inspection of weldments (EN 1435) that is approved since 1997. Conclusions from practical investigations on pipe line sites, in petrochcemical plants and in nuclear power stations will be discussed as well. Furthermore, the presentation will stipulate a variety of advantages obtained from the new source in terras of coUimation and radiation protection.

Automated analyzers may be used for continuous monitoring of ambient poUutants and EPA has developed continuous procedures (23) as alternatives to the referenced methods. Eor source sampling, EPA has specified extractive sampling trains and analytical methods for poUutants such as SO2 and SO [7446-11-9] sulfuric acid [7664-93-9] mists, NO, mercury [7439-97-6], beryUium [7440-41-7], vinyl chloride, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Some EPA New Source Performance Standards requite continuous monitors on specified sources. 

The most important considerations in marketing and estabUshing a crop from a new source are constancy of supply and quahty. Eor some spices, it is difficult to reduce labor costs, as some crops demand individual manual treatment even if grown on dedicated plantations. Only the individual stigmas of the saffron flower must be picked cinnamon bark must be cut, peeled, and roUed in strips mature unopened clove buds must be picked by hand and orchid blossoms must be hand pollinated to produce the vanilla bean.

Nonattamment. EPA issued final rules for the Emission Offset PoHcy governing development in nonattainment areas. A new source must apply the lowest achievable emission rate (LAER) for the problem poUutant and must obtain a more than equivalent offsetting emission reduction from existing sources. Either the existing sources can be owned by the same company, or the reduction can be bought from other companies. In this way, new growth is ahowed while air quahty improvement is achieved. 

Emission Standards. In order to have a nationwide basis for air pollution emission controls and to set a minimum emission limit, the EPA developed New Source Performance Standards (NSPS). The NSPS set specific poUutant emission limits or describe the best available control technology (BACT) that should be appUed at that source. The EPA has issued NSPS, which apply to new constmction as weU as to large modifications, for many different sources. Sources in the chemical industry include the foUowing.

The thermodynamics and physical properties of the mixture to be separated are examined. VLE nodes and saddles, LLE binodal curves, etc, are labeled. Critical features and compositions of interest are identified. A stream is selected from the source Hst. This stream is either identified as meeting all the composition objectives of a destination, or else as in need of further processing. Once an opportunistic or strategic operation is selected and incorporated into the flow sheet, any new sources or destinations are added to the respective Hsts. If a strategic separation for dealing with a particular critical feature has been implemented, then that critical feature is no longer of concern. Alternatively, additional critical features may arise through the addition of new components such as a MSA. The process is repeated until the source Hst is empty and all destination specifications have been satisfied. 

Thermal chlorination of methane was first put on an industrial scale by Hoechst in Germany in 1923. At that time, high pressure methanol synthesis from hydrogen and carbon monoxide provided a new source of methanol for production of methyl chloride by reaction with hydrogen chloride. Prior to 1914 attempts were made to estabHsh an industrial process for methanol by hydrolysis of methyl chloride obtained by chlorinating methane.

NAAQS. Continuous monitoring is also required for other CAA pollutants for which the EPA or the state determines that monitoring is necessary. The EPA or the state may exempt any CAA pollutant from these monitoring requirements if the maximum air-quahty impact of the emissions increase is less than the values in Table 25-6 or if present concentrations of the pollutant in the area that the new source would affect are less than the Table 25-6 values. Offsets Policy Offsets were EPAs first application of the concept that one source could meet its environmental protection obligations by getting another source to assume additional control actions. In nonattainment areas, pollution from a proposed new source, even one that controls its emissions to the lowest possible level, would aggravate existing violations of ambient air-quahty standards and trigger the statutory prohibition. The offsets policy provided these new sources with an alternative. The source could proceed with construction plans, provided that ...
