METROHEALTH Lamb Associates, Inc. Tommy Roach P.O. Box 638 Lumberton, NC 28359 (919) 739-3181 Multi-user safety and health package. Records data on personnel and MSDS information. Assists with medical reports and OSHA forms. [Pg.298]

Overall control is provided by the PDP-11/44, running DEC S RSX-llM operating system. RSX-llM is a multi-user multi-task operating system, and a number of other analytical instruments are interfaced to this computer system and are running concurrently. The automated Instron software is menu-driven because our experience has shown that menu-driven software is particularly effective for applications of this type. To perform either test the user accesses a main menu from which separate menus for instrument calibration, tensile tests, and flexure tests can be reached. The tensile and flexure menus have equivalent options the choices pertaining to automated testing are as follows ... [Pg.49]

Applications In most polymer/additive analysis applications, a QMS is applied in view of its ease of use, relatively low cost, and coupling with chromatography (Section 7.3). The ability of QMS to cope with large solvent volumes flowing into the ionisation source for extended periods of time and ease of interfacing - both to computers and chromatographs - makes it the choice for multi-user systems, and has facilitated hyphenation with GC, LC and TG. Consequently, QMS are a mainstay of GC-MS, LC-MS and TG-MS. [Pg.390]

Given that the data collection computer is idle most of the time, it is tempting to consider a multi-user operating system. [Pg.153]

Each object has the ability to serialize itself and also to initialize itself from a serialized representation. If the programming language has a reflective facility, you can write a single piece of code to determine the structure of the object and perform serialization and initialization. Java serialization works this way. Of course, flat files do not provide any of the multi-user, concurrency, meta-data, schema evolution, transaction, and recovery facilities that a database provides. [Pg.524]

In the late 1970s, Hewlett-Packard introduced the HP-3300 series data-acquisition system, which was able to connect to 60 chromatographic instruments through an A/D converter. This was the beginning of what would become a revolution in CDS development within the analytical instrument industry. By the mid-1980s, all of the major analytical instrument manufacturers offered network-based data-acquisition systems Beckman, HP, PE, VG, and Waters. These were multi-user, time-sharing systems that used A/D converters to acquire data from the instruments. Instrument control, both HPLC and GC, was a capability that would soon follow. Several CDS manufacturers offered serial control of the HP 5890 GC while Waters also offered instrument control for their own HPLCs. [Pg.584]

As network connectivity improved within the PC operating systems, client/server computing became possible. Instead of performing all of the work on a single, multi-user computer, you could now distribute the work across many computers. In the client/server model, adding a PC to the network increases the overall processing power of the system. The... [Pg.589]

Figure 6.1 shows the mass spectmm of an impurity run in the positive APPI mode and shows both at miz 352 and MH miz 353. This is an example where the mechanisms of proton transfer and electron transfer are both taking place. This can be confusing when dealing with complete unknowns and demonstrates why it is unsuitable for routine use in an open access multi-user environment or by inexperienced users. A better understanding of the processes involved and the role of mobile phase and dopant is required before this can be put to routine use. There are a number of papers published on this topic [20, 21]. [Pg.160]

The volumes in the series of Spectroscopic Techniques An Interactive Course are delivered with special versions of ID WIN-NMR and 2D WIN-NMR. They are a supplement for this course to be installed on a stand-alone PC and to be used exclusively for processing the experimental data supplied in the NMR data base. They cannot be used to process the users personal NMR data. The full version of ID WIN-NMR and 2D WIN-NMR software must be installed for this purpose and a special copy protection dongle (a WIBU key for the single user mode, or a Net-HASP key for the multi-user/network mode) must be used. Note also that for 2D WIN-NMR a standard 16-bit and a more powerful 32-bit version exist. Please refer to the description in the corresponding Bruker manuals [2.1, 2.2]. [Pg.10]

The Computer. AXIS is written in FORTRAN and runs on a GEC 4000 series multi-user mini computer equipped with a Graphics Option Controller (GOC) model 5250, manufactured by Sigma Electronic Systems Ltd. This device converts an alphanumeric visual display unit into a graphics terminal, allowing independent use of the alphanumeric and graphics screens. In addition, it provides cursor handling facilities and the ability to selectively erase part of the screen. All of these features are utilised by AXIS. [Pg.115]

This work was supported by grants from the National Science Foundation (EAR-9614747 EAR-9909293 EAR-0509856). The HRXCT facility at the University of Texas at Austin is an NSF shared multi-user facility supported in part by grant EAR-0004082. [Pg.211]

These diverging views have led to a strong pressure towards separation - predominantly at multi-user sites where service customers are often from different corporations. With service companies increasingly trying to expand into the external market, some chemical companies in turn became convinced that a successful disinvestment would be possible. A number of them have indeed made intense disinvestment efforts. Up to early 2005, however, these efforts have not been successful. [Pg.263]

The JADE-S (i.e., Secure-JADE) add-on to JADE is a third party enhancement to the framework that implements numbers of security services, including user/agent authentication, authorization and secure intra-platform communication. It makes the platform a multi-user environment where all components (i.e., agents and containers) are owned by users who are responsible for their actions. Additionally, a security policy can be enforced in order to allow or deny actions only on chosen subset of agents or users. [Pg.334]

Because of their obvious advantages personal computers are used in all kinds of organizations and for a wide variety of applications. Accessibility and cost are comparable with a dialog terminal connected to a multi-user computer system. The main advantages, however, can be seen in the wealth of high-quality software products that are available today, and in the comfort of high I/O- bandwidth between CPU and display screen allowing for instantaneous updates of the screen s contents. [Pg.178]

D. Database integrity is maintained in a multi-user environment through the centralized data dictionary. [Pg.31]

For multi-user system, some tests should be done while the maximum number of users are using the system. [Pg.50]

Restrictions desired by A, e.g., that pk can only be used in specific applications, or that pk is used on a multi-user workstation and A can therefore not take full responsibility for it. [Pg.17]

Time of activation In single user applications, it may be desirable to propagate changes eagerly. This way, the user is informed promptly about the consequences of the changes performed in the respective documents. In multi user scenarios, however, deferred propagation is usually required. In this way each user keeps control of the export and import of changes from and to his local workspace. [Pg.228]

The bcLsic component of electrochemical instrumentation is the potentiostat. The use of a single computer or microprocessor to control voltammetric instrumentation is well established and many digitally controlled potentiostat configurations have been described/ but the limited capabilities of microprocessors may render their use difficult and a minicomputer system is quite expensive for control purposes. On the other hand, the use of two computers, a microprocessor or a microcomputer for realtime control of the experiment and a host computer for data evaluation, offers several advantages. In addition, the large multi-user minicomputer can be replaced by a personal computer to give the operator full control over the system. ... [Pg.31]
