Manganese sources

Although there are several potentially volatile cyclopentadienyl compounds for other transition metals [123], which could be utilised for AID processing, only a few have been studied in this respect. For example, volatile (C5H5)2Mn and (C5MeH4)Mn(CO)3 have been used as manganese sources for doping ZnS thin films to produce yellow-emitting thin-film electroluminescent devices [156]. [Pg.140]

Comparative effects of calcium lactate and milk on apparent manganese utilization by humans are shown on Table II (7). In this study, 10 adult human subjects were fed 900 mg calcium from milk or 916 mg of calcium from calcium lactate/subject/day. Calcium provided by the basal diet was maintained constant. The increase in fecal manganese excretion with the calcium lactate supplemented diet in comparison to values when milk was the supplemental manganese source suggests that calcium supplied by milk had a lesser adverse effect on manganese absorption than did that from calcium lactate (Table II). [Pg.148]

Remark Manganese ore contains about 40% manganese (Source of production data http //minerals.usgs.gOv/minerals/pubs/commodity/statistical summary/mybl-2006-stati.pdf Source of abundance data Geological handbook, Heibon-sha, Tokyo, Japan)... [Pg.291]

Manganese minerals are widely distributed oxides, silicates, and carbonates are the most common. The discovery of large quantities of manganese nodules on the floor of the oceans may become a source of manganese. These nodules contain about 24% manganese together with many other elements in lesser abundance. [Pg.59]

Thallium occurs in crooksite, lorandite, and hutchinsonite. It is also present in pyrites and is recovered from the roasting of this ore in connection with the production of sulfuric acid. It is also obtained from the smelting of lead and zinc ores. Extraction is somewhat complex and depends on the source of the thallium. Manganese nodules, found on the ocean floor, contain thallium. [Pg.144]

The brown crystalline manganese(III) acetate dihydrate is of considerable commercial importance because it is often used as the source material for other trivalent manganese compounds. It can be made by oxidation of manganese(II) acetate using chlorine or potassium permanganate, or by reaction of manganese(II) nitrate and acetic anhydride. [Pg.507]

Minerals. Nuts are considered to be a good source of minerals essential for nutrition, supplying elements of copper, manganese, iron, and sulfur (see Mineral nutrients). The values for the mineral constituents of many nuts shown in Table 2 are averages of available analytical data. Values for the mineral content of the peanut kernel (28) and ash constituents in the macadamia kernel (29) and cashew (26) have also been reported. Chufa nuts have a high sihcon content. [Pg.272]

Technical-Grade Terephthalic Acid. All technical-grade terephthahc acid is produced by catalytic, hquid-phase air oxidation of xylene. Several processes have been developed, but they all use acetic acid as a solvent and a multivalent heavy metal or metals as catalysts. Cobalt is always used. In the most popular process, cobalt and manganese are the multivalent heavy-metal catalysts and bromine is the renewable source for free radicals (51,52). [Pg.487]

Ocean Nodules. A less conventional copper resource consists of deep-sea ferromanganese nodules. These nodules are primarily manganese, but some deposits contain over 1% copper. The nodules occur at many ocean sites, but the most valuable deposits are found in the Pacific Ocean. Although a number of companies are studying methods for recovering values from this source, copper resources from nodules must be considered tentative. World resources are estimated at 0.7 biUion metric tons (8) (see Ocean raw materials). [Pg.193]

This method is used for the determination of total chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), beiylhum (Be), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), selenium (Se), phosphorus (P), thalhum (Tl), silver (Ag), antimony (Sb), barium (Ba), and mer-cuiy (Hg) stack emissions from stationaiy sources. This method may also be used for the determination of particulate emissions fohowing the procedures and precautions described. However, modifications to the sample recoveiy and analysis procedures described in the method for the purpose of determining particulate emissions may potentially impacl the front-half mercury determination. [Pg.2206]
