ASSE has 12 divisions and 148 chapters in the US. and abroad. It also has 64 student sections. The engineering Division is most closely related to System Safety. 

Today, ASSE has mae than 33,000 occupational safety, health and environmental professional members who lead, manage, supervise, research and consult on safety, health, transportation and environmental issues in all industries, government, laba, healthcare and education. This standard provides criteria for the administration of a nuclear criticality safety program for operations outside of reactors in which there exists a potential for criticality accidents. Responsibilities of management, supervision, and the nuclear criticality safety staff are addressed. Objectives and characteristics of operating and emergency procedures are included. 

Effective nuclear criticality safety programs include cooperation among management, supervision, and the criticality safety staff and rely on the knowledgeable conformance with operating procedures by all employees. Although the extent and complexity of safety-relat< activities may vary greatly with the size and type of operation with fissile material, certain safety elements are common. This standard represents a codification of such elements related to criticality safety. 

The risks associated with new projects may include use of hazardous substances insufficient product data faulty electrical equipment poor access/egress poor ergonomics noisy equipment poorly guarded machinery imported equipment/materials lack of risk assessment lack of training/awareness on behalf of management, supervision and employees poor environmental control inadequate emergency procedures inadequate maintenance considerations poor construction methods little or no consideration of waste disposal/demolition. 

When outside contractors are involved, the equipment shall be locked out and tagged in accordance with this procedure by the Project Manager supervising the work. Only in emergency cases is equipment to be shut down by other than a company representative.

Excavation work is an essential part of the construction process and one of the most hazardous. Building foundations and the instaiiation of drainage, sewage and other services require trenches to be excavated. The process starts with formal interviews with the senior leader/general manager. After a discussion that acquires the senior leader s insights and concerns, interviews would be conducted with selected individuals of the leadership team (managers, supervision). The interviews will be made to include all workshifts and at various times throughout each workshift.
