The AIChE not only refused to establish operating sections in Canada, but only by special request did it permit the establishment of student chapters. The two primary ones that were established and existed for many years were at U.B.C. and McGill. It was also possible for such a student chapter to be an affiliated student chapter of the Chemical Engineering Division of the CIC and later of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE) at the same time.
