Liquid formulation area

In addition to traditional dermal and transdermal delivery formulations, such as creams, ointments, gels, and patches, several other systems have been evaluated. In the pharmaceutical semisolid and liquid formulation area, these include sprays, foams, multiple emulsions, microemulsions, liposomal formulations, transfersomes, niosomes, ethosomes, cyclodextrins, glycospheres, dermal membrane structures, and microsponges. Many of these novel systems use vesicles to modulate drug delivery. Novel transdermal... [Pg.1317]

It is of interest that sanitation is of little concern in this area. The products being handled will not support microbial growth and, more than likely, are toxic to microorganisms. The primary reason for cleanliness in a liquid formulation area is to avoid contamination of one flavor with another and to minimize worker exposure to organic vapors. Due to the very low flavor thresholds of some flavor constituents, cleanliness is essential. [Pg.352]

In the cases where liquid formulations are applied, calibration is normally performed by collecting the output volume over a given time period. Generally a minimum of three such measurements should be taken in order to estimate output consistency. Where output is collected from multiple nozzles or outlets, each nozzle or outlet should be evaluated in order to ensure uniformity of output across all the nozzles or outlets. If the deviation from the manufacturer s recommended value is not within 5% (or the value specified in an appropriate SOP), the nozzle or outlet should be replaced. The use of a patternator allows the droplet distribution pattern of the nozzles or outlets to be measured accurately, and this check should be conducted annually. Having estimated the output of the equipment, the time required to treat a specific area with a known quantity of test item solution can be calculated. [Pg.182]

Another area of development that could greatly improve the ability to rapidly derive stable liquid formulation candidates is the development of high-throughput... [Pg.372]

Eutectic mixtures have been used extensively for applications of molten salts to reduce the operating temperature and this is where the significant area of ionic liquids developed from i.e. the quest to find aluminum-based salt mixtures. While the development of aluminum-containing ionic liquids is technologically very important for the field of metal deposition it is clear that there are many other issues that also need to be addressed and hence methods need to be developed to incorporate a wide range of other metals into ionic liquid formulations. [Pg.32]

Beyond considering the solvent formulators must also consider the biology and state of the skin, and whether transient or sustained delivery is desired. Generally, semisolid formulations are selected for increased residence on the skin, and liquid formulations for a rapid short-term input of permeant into the skin. In both the clinical and cosmetic domains, skin type can affect the choice of formulation base in that usually for normal to oily skin types, gels are preferred but for normal to dry skin types lotions are usually selected and for dry skin, creams are often the preferred base. As well as skin type, the skin site to be treated can affect vehicle selection. For example, for hairy areas lotions, gels or sprays are usually preferable as these spread better whereas for intertriginous areas, creams or lotions are usually employed. [Pg.410]

The automatic dishwasher detergents in today s marketplace, both liquid and powder versions, deliver cleaning performance that is acceptable to most consumers. However, one area in which consumers would like to see product improvement is in cleaning of baked-on, cooked-on, and dried-on food soils. These soils are tenaciously stuck to surfaces and are hard to remove unless strong mechanical forces are applied. To make the cleaning task of such hard-to-remove soils easier, special liquid formulations, often referred to as prespotters, have been developed. [Pg.360]

Results. The monolithic coating of the spray formulation applied to the double pond covered both the liquid-containing area, the top and outside edges, and also formed the spillway between the two ponds. After several days, some cracks developed in the coating at the top inside... [Pg.70]

The ponds have successfully contained liquid for over 16 months. It was necessary to repair a few cracks in the liquid-containing area after 6 months by applying a strip of Fiberglas cloth over the crack and brushing on a layer of the spray formulation. No further evidence of cracking in these areas has been noted. [Pg.71]

Liquid formulations should be prepared in an area that Is as clean as possible. Water for parenteral products should be of pharmacopoeial Water for Injection quality. Mixing vessels and other equipment should be cleaned and disinfected. It is normal for these areas to be provided with filtered air from HEPA fllteis of somewhat lower efficiencies than those providing protection to aseptic filling rooms. Sterilization of liquid products should be by filtration through... [Pg.187]

Having said all this we would like to point out very clearly that we consider the constant quest for new, highly functionalized or task-specific ionic liquid structures as a very important part of the development of the whole ionic liquid research area. These may still have many, economically highly attractive applications, even if the total volume of their use is expected to be much smaller. These task-specific ionic liquids are likely to form the key functional materials in devices like sensors or chromatographic columns or the magic ingredient in product formulations, like electrochemical baths or lubricants. [Pg.693]

Foam granulation takes advantage of the tremendous increase in the liquid surface area and volume of polymeric binder foams to improve the distribution of the water/binder system throughout the powder bed of a solid dose pharmaceutical formulation. [Pg.403]

The second analysis that is performed on most liquid ingredients and finished flavors is refractive index (RI). Refractive index is typically done using an Abbe refracto-meter in a smaller company or by automated systems in mid to large flavor companies. The Abbe refractometer is accurate to four decimal places, covers the RI range typically encountered in flavoring materials, and is rapid. The RI of a flavor is a function of all the components and their proportions. Therefore, this determination is very sensitive to mixture composition. RI and SG will detect many of the compounding errors made in the formulation area. [Pg.440]

Pesticides have been applied in a variety of formulations onto soils and crops for the control of insects, noxious weeds, fungi, and other bioagents that interfere in the production of food and fiber. Examples of such formulations are dusts, suspensions prepared from solid powders, and suspensions prepared from concentrated liquid formulations. The formulations, however, can have some undesired effects in that the active ingredient in these preparations can easily move about to a non-target area. Dusts can easily be carried for long distances away from the field even in the slightest winds. Evaporation to the atmosphere can take place with both dusts and liquid suspensions sprayed onto fields. [Pg.17]
