Line composition

The ternary diagrams shown in Figure 22 and the selectivi-ties and distribution coefficients shown in Figure 23 indicate very good correlation of the ternary data with the UNIQUAC equation. More important, however, Table 5 shows calculated and experimental quarternary tie-line compositions for five of Henty s twenty measurements. The root-mean-squared deviations for all twenty measurements show excellent agreement between calculated and predicted quarternary equilibria. [Pg.76]

Chitosan scaffolds were reinforced with beta-tricalciiun phosphate and calcium phosphate invert glass [177]. Along the same line, composites of Loligo beta-chitin with octacalcium phosphate or hydroxyapatite were prepared by precipitation of the mineral into a chitin scaffold by means of a double diffusion system. The octacalciiun phosphate crystals with the usual form of 001 blades grew inside chitin layers preferentially oriented with the 100 faces parallel to the surface of the squid pen and were more stable to hy-... [Pg.173]

The LLE for another ternary system, ethyl terf-butyl ether (ETBE) -t ethanol -l- [C4CiIm][TfO], at 298.15 K was studied by Arce et al. [35]. To determine the tie-line compositions, they used the NMR spectroscopy. The values of the solute distribution ratio fi = XEtoH V. EtoH / where II refers to an IL-rich phase) and selectivity (S = /SEtoH// EXBE) were calculated from tie-line data. In general, both the solute distribution ratio and the selectivity decreased as the molar fraction of efhanol in the organic-rich phase increased, the maximal values being ca. 3.5 and ca. 22, respectively. The ETBE + ethanol + IL system was compared to the ETBE + ethanol + water system. [Pg.260]

The lower line of a saturation envelope is the bubble-point line, and the upper line is the dew-point line. Composition-temperature conditions which plot below the saturation envelope indicate that the mixture is entirely liquid. [Pg.72]

The aseptically-processed concentrates retained sterility throughout the course of the study and were stored at 7.2° and 23.9°C. The samples in 6-oz. foil-lined composite cans and those cold filled into the 200-ml rectangular packages were stored only at -17.8°C because, they were not aseptically packed and were subject to microbial spoilage. [Pg.252]

The feasibility of diffuse reflectance NIR, Fourier transform mid-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopy in combination with multivariate data analysis for in/ on-line compositional analysis of binary polymer blends found in household and industrial recyclates has been reported [121, 122]. In addition, a thorough chemometric analysis of the Raman spectral data was performed. [Pg.220]

The controller receives the on-line composition measurement of the product outlets (extract and raffinate) as feedback data from the plant. These measurements are filtered through a periodic Kalman filter and used together with the simplified SMB model results to estimate the state of the system and to remove the possible moidel errors. The formulation of RMPC is based on the assumption that possible errors or disturbances are likely to repeat and will have a periodic effect on the output, which is the most likely correlation between disturbances and output in a SMB unit. The estimated future concentration profile in the SMB is used to optimize the future behaviour of the plant over a predefined prediction horizon. The controller implements the calculated optimal plant input by changing the external flow rates in order to control the internal flow rates, which are the manipulated variables. Time lags, e.g. between online concentration measurements and optimizer or between optimizer and SMB plant, are insignificant relative to the process dynamics and sampling time for the planned scheme. [Pg.178]

The most commonly used on-line composition analyzer is the gas chromatograph (GC), but infrared, ultraviolet, and visible radiation analyzers have made inroads recently. On-line composition measurements are generally relatively expensive. [Pg.1193]

The sample system is responsible for collecting a representative sample of the process and delivering it to the analyzer for analysis. Obviously, the reliability of the sample system directly affects the reliability of the overall composition analysis system. The transport delay associated with the sample system contributes directly to the overall deadtime associated with an on-line composition measurement. This difference in sampling deadtime can have a drastic effect on the performance of a control loop. Table 15.2 summarizes the dynamic characteristics and repeatability of typical control valve systems and several different types of sensors. [Pg.1193]

The metallurgical processes involved in the manufacture of permanent magnets make it desirable to know whether the phase Nd2Fe14B is a so-called line composition or whether a range of homogeneity is present around this composition. The large spread in values of the Curie temperature reported by Coey et al. (1984)... [Pg.8]

Next we will examine potential controlled and manipulated variables. There are five potential controlled variables production (Fb), hydrogen/toluene ratio (yns/yn), pressure, purge composition (ynp). and conversion (X). However, some of them might be left uncontrolled. For example, conversion control is difficult, because of dead-time associated with a PFR. Moreover, it requires on-line composition analyser, which is not available or expensive. For these reasons, it would be desirable to develop a control structure in which controlling the reactor inlet temperature would be sufficient. [Pg.547]

On-line composition is usually measured by gas chromatographs. Other analyzers include infrared and ultraviolet analyzers, mass spectrometers, boiling point analyzers, wet-chemical analyzers, flash point analyzers, and refractive index analyzers. [Pg.568]

It is worth noting the emergence of several online or in-line composition measurement techniques such as ATR-FTIR and Raman spectroscopy as well as the application of GC and NMR in an online manner [133]. [Pg.116]

These results illustrate the improvement in dynamic and steady-state performance that is achievable with conventional PI control structures through the use of ratio and cascade control schemes. Of course, on-line composition measurements are required for dualcomposition control. [Pg.209]

Therefore, a range of on-line sensors will be installed to measure for instance temperatures (including those along the absorber and stripper), pressures, liquid and gas flows, gas composition and absorber and stripper solvent levels. Solvent sample points will be included for solvent extraction to facilitate detailed off-line composition analysis. The rich stream shall be equipped with a coriflow mass flow meter that is able to measure solvent density. Since the solvent density increases with CO2 loading, this means that one obtains an indication of die loading real-time. [Pg.375]

Due to the shift reaction features, for a given reactor feed stream composition and flow rate, the temperature of the feed stream can be manipulated in order to maximize CO conversion. Consequently, if the industrial reactor has in-line/on-line composition analyzers as well as flow rate measurement instrumentation, on-line optimization can be successfully implemented. The problem is that this kind of in-line/ on-line instrumentation is not only expensive but also may need continuous and excessive calibration and maintenance. Therefore, some question arises can other real-time measurements be used for CO conversion How does temperature influence CO conversion correlated This is an important issue as temperature measurements are usually reliable, accurate, real-time and low cost. Moreover, fixed bed reactors can have temperature instruments installed along the reactor length, providing a temperature profile. Towards this, a novel and alternative approach will be presented in order to overcome this issue, focusing on CO conversion control. [Pg.68]

Whilst the formation of biofilms is the obvious consequence of poor hygiene, there is little in the public domain about them in the context of dispensed beer. Arguably the only studies that quantify attached microorganisms in dispense lines are Thomas and Whitham (1996) in a study on-line composition, Fielding, Hall, and Peters (2007) on the use of ozone as a line cleaner, and Walker et al. (2007), who evaluated the use of enzymes as line cleaning pretreatment. [Pg.343]

They dominate the field of wood adhesives and represent one of the largest volumes of any synthetic adhesive. Phenolics are also among the lowest-cost adhesives and may be formulated as water dispersions, to allow penetration into the cell structure of wood which is important for the formation of permanent bonds. Beyond the wood and wood products area, unmodified phenolics are used mainly as primers, to prepare metal surfaces for bonding, and as binders, for such varied products as glass wool insulation mats, foundry sand, abrasive wheels, and brake lining composites. Phenolics are supplied either as one-component, heat-curable liquid solution, as powder, or as liquid solution to which catalysts must be added. The curing mechanisms are different for these two groups. "... [Pg.104]
