ProCite are currently all owned by Thomson Scientific and are available as standalone software packages for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. RefWorks is a Web-based program with individual accounts that can be accessed across platforms from any point of Internet access. Biblioscape is available in a variety of stand-alone and Web-based options. For the most part, these programs cover the gamut of research disciplines and are fairly well populated with filters and templates specific to the chemistry literature. Reviews of these and other bibliographic management software tools are regularly available in the library literature.

Besides specifications on atoms, bonds, branches, and ring closure, SLN additionally provides information on attributes of atoms and bonds, such as charge or stereochemistry. These are also indicated in square [ ] or angle < > brackets behind the entity e.g., trans-butane CH3CH=[s=t]CHCH3). Furthermore, macro atoms allow the shorthand specification of groups of atoms such as amino adds, e.g., Ala, Protein2, etc. A detailed description of these specifications and also specifications for 2D substructure queries or combinatorial libraries can be found in the literature [26]. 

Medline covers primarily biomedical literature, containing more than 13 million citations (October, 2002) of articles from more than 4600 journals published since 1958 [18]. The database covers basic biomedical research, clinical sciences, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, pre-clinical sciences, and life science. Medline, a subset of PubMed, is a bibliographic database produced by the US Nationcil Library of Medicine (NLM). The database is available free of charge via SciFinder Scholar or PubMed [19]. 

Reaction databases contain a wealth of reactions performed in the laboratory and published in the literature, i.c., in contrast to the transform libraries of synthesis design programs they contain raw, uninterpreted reaction information. In Figure 10,3-41 a schematic representation of a reaction in a reaction database is given. 

Nepeta (Lamiaceae) is a genus of perennial or annual herbs found in Asia, Europe and North Africa. About 250 species of Nepeta are reported of which, 67 species are present in Iran. Some species of this genus are important medicinal plants and their extracts have been used for medicinal purposes. Aerial parts of Nepeta sintenisii Bornm. was subjected to hydrodistillation and the chemical composition of isolated essential oil has been analyzed by GC/MS method for first time. Identification of components of the volatile oil was based on retention indices relative to n-alkanes and computer matching with the Wiley275.L library, as well as by comparison of the fragmentation patterns of the mass spectra with those reported in the literature. 

A small library should be adjaeent to the shop floor, with field drawings, written histories of equipment, eatalogs, API speeifieations, and other literature pertinent to the maehine maintenanee field. Drawings and manuals should be transferred to the eleetronie digital media as soon as possible. Aeeess to the Internet on the maintenanee and produetion area eomputers is a must as many manufaeturers post helpful operational and maintenanee hints on their websites. First, and perhaps foremost, are the members of the library staff at E. I. Du Pont de Nemours Co., Chemicals and Pigments Department, Jackson Laboratory, Deepwater, New Jersey, for their remarkable and enthusaistic assistance in culling literature. We particularly appreciate the efforts of Louise Del Signore, Dianne Cowperthwait, Evern Ford, Eleanor Price, Joanne Randolph, and Dot Toulson. 

Titles of potential resourees were obtained by eonducting a literature search and an industry survey. Simultaneous literature searches were condueted by CCPS and SAIC. CCPS eoneentrated on obtaining CPI data resources while SAIC used a literature search conducted for the nuclear power reliability eommunity. These literature searches used in-house eompany, engineering, and public libraries and recommendations from members of the user eommunity. At the same time, a questionnaire was sent to professionals who eonduct CPQRAs. The survey requested information on the data resourees used by the companies and whether they had plant-speeific data that could be used by CCPS. Members of the CCPS Equipment Reliability Data Subcommittee were also asked to eompile lists of data resources with which they were familiar and which they had used for reliability or risk analyses. As a result, an extensive but not necessarily eomplete list of data resource titles was assembled. Any resources uncovered after the publisher s eutoff date and not reviewed have been included in Appendix D.

Since the second edition of Corrosion was published a vast body of literature on localised corrosion has arisen. This is most easily accessed through computer library sources. Older references, however, may be harder to trace in this way, and so arc presented here. 

No references to the original literature are given in the text. This is because the introduction of such references would have considerably increased the size and therefore the price of the book. However, a discussion on the literature of analytical chemistry is given in the Appendix. With the aid of the various volumes mentioned therein — which should be available in all libraries of analytical chemistry — and the Collective Indexes of Chemical Abstracts or of British Chemical Abstracts, little difficulty will, in general, be experienced in finding the original sources of most of the determinations described in the book.
