Another injectable anesthetic widely used in feline and primate practice is ketamine hydrochloride [1867-66-9]. Ketamine, a derivative of phencychdine, can be chemically classified as a cyclohexamine and pharmacologically as a dissociative agent. Analgesia is produced along with a state that resembles anesthesia but in humans has been associated with hallucinations and confusion. For these reasons, ketamine is often combined with a tranquilizer. The product is safe when used in accordance with label directions, but the recovery period may be as long as 12—24 h. [Pg.405]

Hair colorants, the fourth class of color additives, may be used only to color scalp hair and may not be used in the area of the eye. Use of these colorants is exempt, that is, coal-tar hair dyes may be sold with cautionary labeling, directions for preliminary (patch) testing, and restrictions against use in or near the eye. The EDA diligently enforces the rules governing color additives and limits the use of, or even dehsts colorants deemed unsafe. The Hst of substances specifically prohibited for use in cosmetics is short. [Pg.286]

Neotame is an artificial sweetener designed to overcome some of the problems with aspartame. The dimethylbutyl part of the molecule was added to block the action of peptidases, enzymes that break the peptide bond between the two amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine. This reduces the availability of phenylalanine, eliminating the need for a warning on labels directed at people who cannot properly metabolize phenylalanine. [Pg.76]

One of the first items of importance when attempting to select an agricultural site at which to perform a worker exposure/re-entry study is to review the label on the product. Such a review will reveal the areas where the product is to be used and the conditions under which the product is to be applied. One should look for whether a product is to be applied by ground or air and if there are any restrictions as to the locations where the product is to be used. One must also pay attention to label directions concerning types of soil where the product is to be used since this could affect rates of use. [Pg.992]

Numeric-symbolic approaches are particularly important in process applications because the time series of data is by far the dominant form of input data, and they are the methods of choice if annotated data exist to develop the interpretation system. With complete dependence on the annotated data to develop the feature mapping step, numeric-symbolic mappers can be used to assign labels directly. However, as the amount and coverage of available annotated data diminishes for the given label of interest, there is a need to integrate numeric-symbolic approaches with... [Pg.43]

Two 180-ft2 sections of a 4-year-old, floral print, nylon carpet of medium pile installed in meeting rooms of the University Club, University of California, Riverside, were treated with two foggers each, in accordance with label directions. The rooms were closed for 2 hr before being opened for 30 min prior to the scheduled 20-min exposure period. The same regimen was followed when foggers were used in a Sacramento apartment and a Riverside house trailer. [Pg.100]

Chemical modification also may be used to label directly an oligonucleotide, eliminating the enzymatic step altogether. The chemical modification of nucleic acids can encompass several... [Pg.973]

Antibodies against sugars (carbohydrate residues) can be difficult to obtain and lectins are a solution to these problems. Lectins are naturally occurring plant and animal proteins or glycoproteins that selectively bind noncovalently to carbohydrate residues. Lectins can be labeled directly or secondary antibodies against lectins enables the use of other immuno techniques (30) including electron microscopy (31). [Pg.102]

Concept maps An informal but structured representation of related terms in the domain. The notation, which is similar to a mind map, is simply concepts or phrases with labeled directed tines between them indicating a relationship it can include rich pictures or storyboards of the domain. [Pg.541]

Where C is a matrix of component concentrations or sample properties, S is a matrix of basis vectors (pure component spectra, or spectral profiles reflecting a pure sample property), and E and Ec are model residuals. The direct model expresses the analyzer responses (X) as a function of concentrations, whereas the inverse model expresses concentrations as a function of the analyzer responses. Because the former is more in line with the Beer-Lambert Law (absorbance = concentration x absorptivity), it is given the label direct . [Pg.377]

To protect people and the environment, crop protection chemicals must be used safely. This is everyone s responsibility, especially the user. Read and follow label directions, carefully before you buy, mix, apply, store or dispose of these chemicals. According to laws regulating them, they must be used only as directed by the label. [Pg.22]

When no safer alternatives are available, reducing exposure becomes especially important. Usually, product labels will explain the recommended safety equipment and procedures appropriate for a particular product. In addition to safety gear, ventilation, and mixing precautions, labels may also mention storage requirements. Unfortunately, some label directions are not specific enough to ensure that following them will guarantee safe use. [Pg.233]

Label-directed or common sense precautions should always be taken, even when using products with relatively low toxicity. For example, all chemical products should be kept out of children s reach. [Pg.233]

The term parameters of the lowest two allowed transitions of ethene calculated with different methods and different choices of computational parameters (48,51,98,105) are summarized in Table I. Included in the table are results obtained with four different basis sets. In combination with these basis sets the MCD parameters were obtained in the transition-based approach through solution of Eq. (60) by direct numerical solution (labeled Direct in Table I) and by expansion in a set of transition densities according to Eq. (72) (labeled SOS ). In some cases approximate forms of the A(1) and B(1) matrices were used (labeled Approx, see Eq. (64) and the discussion following it). MCD parameters derived from a fit to a spectrum obtained by calculation of the imaginary part of the Verdet constant are labeled as Im[V]. The parameters obtained from a fit to the spectrum obtained from the approximate form of Im[V] (see Section... [Pg.75]

As industrial chemicals, FWAs are regulated by national laws such as the Toxic Substance Control Act in the United States and the relevant classification, packaging, and labeling directives in the European Community. For specific applications such as food packaging, the national regulatory requirements must be complied with. [Pg.617]

Government organizations, universities, grower groups, dealers, pesticide producers, and others in the agricultural community have been very involved in product stewardship by encouraging the use of BMPs to protect the environment from runoff into streams, rivers, reservoirs, and lakes. The label directions on several pesticide products now include BMPs. The adoption of BMPs in many crops can be attributed in part to specific use directions on the labels... [Pg.510]

In order to assure that spray will be controllable within the target area when used according to label directions, make applications at a maximum height of 10 ft, using low-drift nozzles at a maximum pressure of 40psi, and restrict application to periods when wind speed does not exceed lOmph. [Pg.573]
