Recovery period

Based on tests with laboratory animals, aniline may cause cancer. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology (CUT) conducted lifetime rodent feeding studies, and both studies found tumors of the spleen at high dosage (100 —300 mg/kg pet day of aniline chloride). CUT found no tumors at the 10—30 mg/kg per day feeding rates. The latter value is equivalent to a human 8-h inhalation level of 17—50 ppm aniline vapor. In a short term (10-d) inhalation toxicity test by Du Pont, a no-effect level of 17 ppm aniline vapor was found for rats. At high levels (47—87 ppm), there were blood-related effects which were largely reversible within a 13-d recovery period (70). 

AATCC Test Method no. 66 describes measurement of recovery angle after placing a crease in a specimen. The specimen is creased by subjecting is to a prescribed load for a length of time. Another injectable anesthetic widely used in feline and primate practice is ketamine hydrochloride [1867-66-9]. Ketamine, a derivative of phencychdine, can be chemically classified as a cyclohexamine and pharmacologically as a dissociative agent. Analgesia is produced along with a state that resembles anesthesia but in humans has been associated with hallucinations and confusion. For these reasons, ketamine is often combined with a tranquilizer. The product is safe when used in accordance with label directions, but the recovery period may be as long as 12—24 h.

Anesthetics. Tricaine is the only currendy registered anesthetic and requites a 21-day withdrawal time (9,11). The withdrawal time for MS-222 is of special concern to PDA when the broodfishes of salmon or other species are taken immediately after spawning for pet or human food. Both carbon dioxide and sodium bicarbonate [144-55-8] have also been used as anesthetics however, both chemicals are difficult to use with consistent results and involve long induction and recovery periods (9). 

The ways of assessing profitabihty to be considered in this section are (1) discounted-cash-flow rate of return (DCFRR), (2) net present value (NPV) based on a particiilar discount rate, (3) eqmvalent maximum investment period (EMIP), (4) interest-recovery period (IRP), and (5) discounted breakeven point (DEEP).

These latter curves are particularly important when they are obtained experimentally because they are less time consuming and require less specimen preparation than creep curves. Isochronous graphs at several time intervals can also be used to build up creep curves and indicate areas where the main experimental creep programme could be most profitably concentrated. They are also popular as evaluations of deformational behaviour because the data presentation is similar to the conventional tensile test data referred to in Section 2.3. It is interesting to note that the isochronous test method only differs from that of a conventional incremental loading tensile test in that (a) the presence of creep is recognised, and (b) the memory which the material has for its stress history is accounted for by the recovery periods. 

Since there can be an infinite number of combinations of creep and recovery periods it has been found convenient to express this behaviour in terms of two dimensionless variables. The first is called the Fractional Recovery, defined as... 

Narcotic or antianxiety drug—to decrease anxiety and apprehension immediately before surgery. The patient who is calm and relaxed can be anesthetized more quickly, usually requires a smaller dose of an induction drug, may require less anesthesia during surgery, and may have a smoother anesthesia recovery period (awakening from anesthesia). 

Antiemetic—to lessen the incidence of nausea and vomiting during the immediate postoperative recovery period. 

Creatine supplementation has been shown to increase the rate of PCr resynthesis in the recovery period after ischemic exercise (Greenhaff et al., 1993a). This could be attributed to an acceleration of oxidative phosphorylation by increased free creatine content available to the mitochondrial fraction of the creatine kinase enzyme, as previously suggested (Bessman and Fonyo, 1966).

There is no evidence that supports drug therapy in hastening the recovery period, decreasing length of hospitalization, or improving survival in acute renal failure. 

The test commences with a heat extraction of about 1 kW (duration 45 h), subsequently this extraction rate was increased to 1.35 kW. After a total time of 60 h, a short recovery period (10 h) was allowed. During this period the heat pump was reversed and started storing heat in the buffer tank. Subsequently a heat injection of about 1 kW was started, after which there is a transient power injection with a maximum power injection rate of about 3.4 kW. During the recovery period from exercise, ATP (newly produced by way of oxidative phosphorylation) is needed to replace the creatine phosphate reserves — a process that may be completed within a few minutes. Next, the lactic acid produced during glycolysis must be metabolized. In the muscle, lactic acid is converted into pyruvic acid, some of which is then used as a substrate in the oxidative phosphorylation pathway to produce ATP. The remainder of the pyruvic acid is converted into glucose in the liver that is then stored in the form of glycogen in the liver and skeletal muscles. These later metabolic processes require several hours for completion.
