Isobutyl acetate alcohol

About 69% of the total 1988 U.S. consumption of isobutyraldehyde, went into the production of isobutyl alcohol and isobutyraldehyde condensation and esterification products. The other principal isobutyraldehyde derivative markets (as a percentage of total 1988 U.S. isobutyraldehyde consumption) are neopentyl glycol (15%) isobutyl acetate (6%) isobutyric acid (5%) isobutyUdene diurea (2.5%) and methyl isoamyl ketone (1.7%). [Pg.380]

Isobutyl isobutyrate, the Tischenko condensation product of two molecules of isobutyraldehyde, is a slow evaporating ester solvent that has been promoted as a replacement for ethoxyethyl acetate. Although produced primarily by the acetylation of isobutyl alcohol, some isobutyl acetate is produced commercially by the crossed Tischenko condensation of isobutyraldehyde and acetaldehyde. Isobutyl acetate [110-19-0] is employed mainly as a solvent, particularly for nitrocellulose coatings. [Pg.380]

Banana (Musa sapientum L.) is one of the most common tropical fruits, and one of Central America s most important crops. It is grown in all tropical regions and is one of the oldest known fruits [45]. From a consumer perspective, bananas are nutritious with a pleasant flavour and are widely consumed throughout the world [57]. Esters predominate in the volatile fraction of banana (Fig. 8.2). Acetates are present in high concentrations in the fruit and generally possess a low threshold. Isopentyl acetate and isobutyl acetate are known as the two most important impact compounds of banana aroma. Alcohols are the second most important group of volatiles in banana extracts. 3-Methyl-1-butanol, 2-pentanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, hexanol, and linalool are the alcohols present in higher concentrations in the fresh fruit [45]. [Pg.190]

The distilled alcohol product mixture was also esterified by refluxing with glacial acetic acid in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfuric acid. The product was extracted with water followed by extraction with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. It was further washed with water and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The crude ester was distilled, and the distillate was stored for further use. The percent yield of esters was 86%. The mixed ester was determined by GC to be composed of (1.3%) methyl acetate, (1.3%) ethyl acetate, (11.5%) n-propyl acetate, (81.7%) isobutyl acetate, (1.2%) 2-methy 1-1-butyl acetate, and (1.9%) other components. The composition corresponded closely to that of the parent alcohol mixture. The fuel characteristics of the alcohol mixture and the ester mixture prepared from it were reported earlier (24). [Pg.930]

The separation of P(V) from other elements, in particular from Si, is often achieved by extracting phosphorus as a heteropoly acid from a slightly acidic solution of pH -1.4. Higher alcohols, esters, and ethers are suitable extractants [3-5]. By extraction with a mixture of butanol and chloroform, molybdophosphoric acid can be separated from molybdoarsenic acid [6]. Isobutyl acetate extracts molybdophosphoric acid, but not molybdosilicic acid, from a solution at pH 0.3-1.0. [Pg.326]

Over the years a variety of uses have been found for the isobutyraldehyde by Eastman Chemical and others.219 It is converted to isobutyl alcohol, neopentyl glycol, isobutyl acetate, isobutyric acid, isobutylidenediurea, methyli-soamyl ketone, and various hydrogenation and esterification products (1.22). [Pg.16]
