Isopropyl glycidyl ether

Synonyms 1,2-epoxy-3 -isopropoxypropane isopropyl epoxypropyl ether isopropoxy-methyl oxirane [Pg.366]

Colorless volatile liquid bp 127°C (260°F) density 0.919 at 20°C (68°F) soluble in water (19%) and most organic solvents. [Pg.367]

IGE is a skin and eye irritant with low toxicity. Irritation in rabbits eyes and skin caused by 100 mg was moderate to low. In humans, frequent skin contact may cause dermatitis. [Pg.367]

Studies on rats indicated low toxicity of this compound with symptoms of respiratory distress. Prolonged exposure caused ocular irritation and depression of the central nervous system. An increase in hemoglobin and a decrease in peritoneal fat was observed. [Pg.367]

LDso value, oral (mice) 1300 mg/kg LDso value, oral (rats) 4200 mg/kg [Pg.367]

ISOPROPYL GLYCIDYL ETHER (4016-08-6) Forms explosive mixture with air (flash point 92°F/33°C). Air and light cause formation of unstable peroxides. Violent reaction with oxidizers, alkalis, permanganates, peroxides, ammonium persulfate, bromine dioxide, strong acids, acyl halides. Attacks some rubbers and plastics. [Pg.675]

OTHER COMMENTS Isopropyl glycidyl ether can presumably form explosive peroxides upon exposure to air or light consequently, the presence or absence of peroxides should be determined, especially prior to distillation if present, they should be destroyed with sodium sulfite before distillation may be used as a stabilizer of chlorinated solvents, and viscosity reducer of epoxy resins. [Pg.695]
