Inspections Categories

There are two types of events that trigger inspection categories that will regularly prompt an inspection request, and categories in which the district office may elect to perform an inspection at their discretion for elements of applications — filed or otherwise.

The basic data gathering methods are direct methods which allow visual inspection or at least direct measurement of properties, and indirect methods whereby we infer reservoir parameters from a number of measurements taken in a borehole. The main techniques available within these categories are summarised in the following table ... 

Where specialized fluctuation data are not available, estimates of horizontal spreading can be approximated from convential wind direction traces. A method suggested by Smith (2) and Singer and Smith (10) uses classificahon of the wind direction trace to determine the turbulence characteristics of the atmosphere, which are then used to infer the dispersion. Five turbulence classes are determined from inspection of the analog record of wind direction over a period of 1 h. These classes are defined in Table 19-1. The atmosphere is classified as A, B2, Bj, C, or D. At Brookhaven National Laboratory, where the system was devised, the most unstable category. A, occurs infrequently enough that insufficient information is available to estimate its dispersion parameters. For the other four classes, the equations, coefficients, and exponents for the dispersion parameters are given in Table 19-2, where the source to receptor distance x is in meters. 

Periodic and special industrial category or geographic area inspections. 

Continuous releases of concentrated HjS streams must be segregated in a separate flare system to limit the extent of fouling and plugging problems. Releases of HjS such as diversion of sour gas product to flares during shutdown or upset of a downstream sulfur recovery unit are considered to be continuous, but safety valve releases are not included in this category. However, if a special HjS flare system is provided for continuous releases, the concentrated HjS safety valve releases should be tied into it rather than into the regular flare system. Due to the nature of HjS one should plan on frequent inspection and flushing of HjS flares to remove scale and corrosion products. 

There are two categories of equipment which determine the selection of equipment general-purpose and special-to-type equipment. It should not be necessary to specify all the general-purpose equipment needed to perform basic measurements, which would be expected to be known by appropriately trained personnel. You should not need to tell an inspector or tester which micrometer, vernier caliper, voltmeter, or oscilloscope to use. These are the tools of the trade and they should select the tool which is capable of measuring the particular parameters with the accuracy and precision required. However, you will need to tell them which device to use if the measurement requires unusual equipment or the environmental conditions prevailing require that only equipment be selected that will operate in such an environment. In such cases the particular devices to be used should be specified in the test or inspection procedures. In order to demonstrate that you selected the appropriate device at some later date, you should consider recording the actual device used in the record of results. With mechanical devices this is not normally necessary because wear should be detected well in advance of there being a problem by periodic calibration. 

In the case of a latent human error the consequences of the error may only become apparent after a period of time when the condition caused by the error combines with other errors or particular operational conditions. Two types of latent error can be distinguished. One category originates at the operational level and leads to some required system function being degraded or unavailable. Maintenance and inspection operations are a frequent source of this type of latent failure. 

Error probabilities that are used in decomposition approaches are all derived in basically the same manner. Some explicit or implicit form of task classification is used to derive categories of tasks in the domain addressed by the technique. For example, typical THERP categories are selections of switches from control panels, walk-around inspections, responding to alarms and operating valves.

The following sections include the relevant sections of the complete Act and indicate those parts of the legislation within the different plant categories to which the inspections provided by the independent engineering inspection companies will conform. It should, however, be appreciated that while the inspections provided will fulfill the statutory requirements for inspection, the actual responsibilities under the various Acts to conform remains the responsibility of the plant owner/user. It must be appreciated that the interpretation of any Act is a matter for the local Health and Safety Inspectorate, who should be consulted at all times if doubt exists as to whether any item of machinery and plant requires inspection to comply with a statutory provision. 

Proper installation of V-belts is necessary to ensure trouble-free operation and maximum service life of the belts. The procedures and practices that should be followed in a proper installation can be broken down into three major categories pre-installation inspections of the belt and pulley, installation practices, and post-installation practices (belt tension inspection and adjustment). 

Casual inspection of the table reveals that the total number of doctorates has reached a peak value of 33727 in 1973 which has only been surpassed in the last year of the time series. Peak values are also observed in the 1973 category of men in other fields and in the 1970 category of men in chemistry. In both categories related to women, no such peak values are observed as the annual counts seem to increase more or less steadily over the whole period.

If a spectrum does not yield the definitive information that you require on inspection, there are many other tools of the trade that we can use to further elucidate structures. Broadly speaking, these fall into two categories - chemical techniques and instrumental techniques. 

Major steps included, for example, plant production, transport, processing and retail. Each major step was subdivided into activities called substeps , which were defined in common categories. For example, the major step transport from processor to retailer could contain substeps in the following categories certification/inspection management labour packaging/labelling equipment pest control contact to supplier/customer. 

Most equations are balanced by inspection. This means basically a trial-and-error, methodical approach to adjusting the coefficients. One procedure that works well is to balance the homonuclear (same nucleus) molecule last. Chemical species that fall into this category include the diatomic elements, which you should know H2, 02, N2, F2, Cl2, Br2, and I2. This is especially useful when balancing combustion reactions. If a problem states that oxygen gas was used, then knowing that oxygen exists as the diatomic element is absolutely necessary in balancing the equation correctly. 

In order to demonstrate what the various types of turns actually look like, Figs. 31 through 34 show stereo views of turn examples from real structures that have angles very close to the defining values for each type. Type III is illustrated for completeness, but it cannot be distinguished from type I by inspection unless it is part of a continuing 310-helix. Types IV and V are not shown, because type IV is a miscellaneous category and there are no ideal cases of type V (see Fig. 36).
