Special needs

The manufacture of waferboard and OSB has many of the same process steps as particleboard, but adapted to the special needs of producing an exterior quaHty panel with large wafers or strands. This discussion focuses on OSB, because waferboard has been almost entirely replaced by OSB and most of the early waferboard mills have now been converted to production of OSB. The OSB process is outlined in Figure 8. 

Control technology requirements vary according to the scale of operation and type of emission problem. For instance, electrostatic precipitator design requirements for fly-ash control from 1000-MW coal-fired power boilers differ from those for a chemical process operation. In the discussion that follows, priority is given to control technology for the CPI as opposed to the somewhat special needs of other industries. 

Trace metals are analy2ed and kept at levels appropriate to the special needs of the customer.

The use of municipal solid waste as a source of energy fills a special need by partially ehminating nrban waste in an enviromnentally acceptable maimer while at the same time prodncing usable energy. 

Efficient transfer of information among engineers and designers will depend on how easily these data can be accessed. The special needs of chemical engineers in this area— the particular ways in which they generate, manage, and use information—merit study. 

In this context, how can interdisciplinary research on the frontiers of the disciphne be best conducted There is an obvious role for large assemblages of researchers in centers of various types. The committee also beheves that the special needs of interdisciplinary research... 

Nevertheless, there are several hurdles to overcome. Biotransformation has to compete with a chemical production process. The production of bio-based bulk chemicals and intermediates from white biotechnology must be economically viabile [67]. This means that the biotechnological product must be cheaper to produce or of higher quality than products based on classical chemical routes. And, incidentally, switching to a novel process takes time and money. Therefore, process solutions are required which are adapted to the special needs of biocatalyzed reactions. Within this chapter, several specific tasks have been addressed, illustrating universal possibilities to overcome the limitations found in bioprocesses. 

Combat medicine poses special problems. Chemical science and technology can aid in the rapid detection and treatment of injuries from chemical and biological weapons and other new weapons such as lasers. We need to develop blood substitutes with a long shelf life, and improved biocompatible materials for dealing with wounds. For the Navy, there are special needs such as analytical systems that can sample the seawater to detect and identify other vessels. We need good ways to detect mines, both at sea and on land. Land mines present a continued threat to civilians after hostilities have ended, and chemical techniques are needed to detect these explosive devices.

Special Nutritional Needs. Several groups have special nutritional needs, e.g. children, the elderly, pregnant women, manual workers and athletes. There are groups who have medical special needs such as those with allergies or diabetes. The latter groups need special foods that are, sometimes, outside ordinary food regulations and, therefore, have special exemption from them. 

In addition, before going for help, you should compile a list of individualized questions that account for your own special needs, writing them down so they can be easily remembered and taking notes on how the therapist answers each question. It is important for you to remember how important this decision may be for your health. You wouldn t necessarily buy the first house you see, or have your surgery at the first hospital you pass. Check out several treatment programs or therapists to ensure that you are making the best selection for your needs. 

Some clients are sent to treatment or therapy, and to aftercare, under legal mandates by the courts. Other clients may be sent to treatment or therapy, and to aftercare, by employers or even by school officials. These clients often are referred to as mandated clients. Mandated clients generally have special needs that other clients may not have. 

PET fibers are produced in a variety of forms, broadly classified as staple fibers, textile filament and industrial filament. End-uses for these variants have different requirements in terms of fiber properties and physical geometry, and so different fiber manufacturing processes have evolved according to the special needs of each market segment.
