Hazardous Waste Storage Standards for an Accumulation Area... 

Any spillage must be promptly removed in general, if the hazardous waste being stored has no free liquids, no pad is required, provided that the accumulation area is sloped, or the containers are elevated. 

Inspect the accumulation area at least once a week for any leaking or deterioration of all containers there must be enough aisle space between the containers to allow for inspections. 

Each satellite accumulation area can have only one container for each waste stream in use at a time ... 

Each satellite accumulation area must be managed by a person who is directly responsible for the process producing the waste and... 

The waste must be moved to the main designated accumulation area within three days after the container is full. 

The impact to health has been mostly dependent on the concentration of the candidate metal. Some metals (e.g., mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium, iron, copper) ultimately find their way into human systems via soil, minerals, and water. Studies have shown the presence of many metals in daily consumable products (e.g., food, fruits, milk, fabric materials, drinking water). Further, heavy metals associated with particle material can be accumulated in areas suitable for sedimentation or particle concentration (e.g., upstream from sills or dams, in estuary sludge clog, etc.). These accumulation areas are creating possible pollution sources, as particles pooled could be resuspended during punctual hydrologic periods (floods, drains). Bioavailability, and therefore toxicity of heavy metals, is strongly bound to the current chemical form. 

The accumulation area should be inspected regularly. The inspection frequency can depend on the level of activity and the degree of hazard, but generally should be at least weekly. The inspection should include the following considerations ...

Sediment cores were taken in the accumulation area of the dams during the winter of 2004-2005 and the summer of 2005. A small boat was be used and during the summer and during winter time the ice was used as a sampling platform. The sediments were cores with a diameter of 31.16 or 55.39 cm. and were sliced in 1 cm. The maximum possible core depth was generally around 35 cm corresponding to the time of construction. 

Data on TOC and dry matter are listed in Tab. 1. The sampling locations were carefully chosen to represent the source, the accumulation a few hundred meters downflow the effluent and an additional potential source in former East-Berlin. All samples were taken in accumulation areas prior to the clean-up of former waste deposits in the Teltow Canal. 

Certain chemical wastes can be accumulated in a satellite accumulation area (40 CFR 262.34(c)). Requirements are limited, but must be observed. 

The blue ice areas are of great interest because they expose old ice that formed in the central accumulation area that may be up to 1,000 km distant in the up-ice direction. Moreover, meteorites, cosmic spherules, fly-ash, and other kinds of object or particles that fell on the surface of the ice sheet in the area of accumulation emerge from the ice in the ablation area and can be recovered for scientific study (Chapter 18). Blue ice is typically slippery and rippled by the katabatic winds which polish its surface. Many unwary travelers have slipped on the ice and fallen unexpectedly, sometimes with painful consequences. 

The isotope composition of oxygen in the East Antarctic ice sheet varies regionally depending primarily on the distance from the coast and on the temperature in the accumulation area. Therefore, the 8 0 values of vertical cores in the accumulation areas have preserved a record of climatic conditions in the past. This record is disturbed when the ice flows from the... 

The 8 0 values of the ice cores (not shown) range widely from -37.5 to about -50.0%e (SMOW), but the patterns do not correlate between adjacent cores. Even the 8 0 profiles of two cores drilled 1 m apart do not resemble each other. Evidently, the ice sheet at the Reckling Moraine was severely deformed as it flowed from the accumulation area and the record of climate change it may have contained was lost. 

The isotope compositions of oxygen and hydrogen in the ice record the temperature at the time and place of deposition. The relationship between isotope composition and the average annnal temperature has been used to reveal the history of climate change in the accumulation areas from the present to 800,000 years in the past. In addition, the ice contains samples of air that was trapped between snow flakes at the time of deposition. Therefore, the climate history has been augmented by a history of the chemical composition of the atmosphere. 

The model of Whillans and Cassidy (1983) in Fig. 18.5 assumes that meteorites that fall in the accumulation area of the East Antarctic ice sheet west of the Transantarctic Mountains, are buried and are then transported by the flow of the ice sheet until they emerge in the ablation zone adjacent to the Transantarctic Mountains. The flow lines of the Whillans-Cassidy model in Eig. 18.5 predict that the age of the ice in the ablation area decreases with increasing distance west of the Transantarctic Mountains. Therefore, the terrestrial ages of meteorite specimens (i.e., the time that has elapsed since the fall of a meteorite) should also decrease with increasing distance from the western slope of the mountains. 

The abundances of the different groups of Antarctic meteorites should resemble the abundances of falls because a representative fraction of all of the specimens that land on the accumulation area of the East Antarctic ice sheet ultimately emerge on the icefields of the ablation zone even though specimens in outflow glaciers are lost at sea. ABSTRACT Oil storage tank is flammable, explosive or toxic substances accumulation area. For the fire explosion accident, it s likely to cause secondary or more accidents, which are known as the domino effect . This paper summarizes the deflnition of the domino effect . LPG storage tank is selected as the research object. The study is focused on the domino effect mechanism and the improvement of criteria of escalation consequence severity. Damage threshold and probabihty model are estabhshed. The calculation method of chain effect of tank area is introduced into the safety evaluation. Through a case study, the calculation steps and result of the method is described. The accident severity and the probabihty of domino effect were obtained based on fire and explosion model. The quantitative evaluation of tank explosion damage model is realized according to different escalation vectors. By comparing the result between primary and domino accident, domino effect needs more consideration. 

Small batch quantities of mixed waste are generated in the HCF as part of the isotope extraction and quality control assessment activities. However, the HCF is operated as a satellite accumulation area, and is not a Resource, Conservation, and Recovery Act (RCRA)-permitted storage facility. Therefore, mixed waste cannot be stored in quantities greater than 55 gallons for more than three days. Only mixed wastes generated In the HCF can be stored in the HCF. In addition, as defined by 40 CFR 260.10, the stainless steel cylinders in which the liquid waste from isotope extraction is solidified and neutralized are operated as elementary neutralization units . Neutralization records will be retained and reported as waste required by state and federal law.
