Program testing

In the converse situation free of gravity, a drop assumes a perfectly spherical shape. At one point, the U.S. Space program tested this idea with the solidification of ball bearings from molten metal drops in microgravity conditions. 

Training is delivered via classroom, on-the-job, computer-based, or self-study programs. Tests and performance observations measure understanding. 

I read recently that in 1979, five nuclear reactors in the US were shut down temporarily, because a program testing their resistance to earthquakes used an arithmetic sum of variables instead of the square root of the sum of the squares of the variables. Actually, I have done that many times myself while calculating the RMS (root mean square) of a waveform ... 

The calibration of all instruments of the installations is carried out by the calibraion service of the quality department, following the rules of that service. The computer programs used in the two installations are permanently tested by a program tested and accepted by the quality department. Errors or deviations are recorded and must to be evaluated by the quality department as given in directive (s).

Several commercially available programs from different manufacturers are suitable in principle for the calculation of flows in twin screw extruders they include but are not limited to Cfx, Fluent, Polyflow (respectively Ansys) and Star-CD (CD-adapco). This list includes the programs tested and used by the author. The program manufacturers offer a number of introductory courses to instruct users in the effective use of the solver and postprocessing. These are recommended for all CFD newcomers. 

When evaluating individuals abilities to perform technical or physical skills, you may wonder whether it is wise to have them take a test of some sort. Unfortunately, tests can be legally problematic unless they have been determined to be both reliable and internally valid. Other than the standard keyboarding program tests for positions that require typing or data entry skills, grammar and spelling tests, and basic math tests, there are few validated tests available in the marketplace.

The supplier-supplied installation tests should be performed and documented to ensure that the software is functioning correctly within the specific operating environment. In addition, a snite of snpplier-snpplied programs, test data, and resnlts can be a valuable aid to validation. Repetition of all these tests shonld be considered each time there is a change to the operating environment. 

It is not feasible to test every aspect of the programs. Tests must be directed toward critical features. Coordination between the customer and supplier can help to minimize superfluous tests. The trend toward incorporating the programming standard of lEC 61131-3 means that validation becomes easier for each new system for which a PLC is used. There are only so many devices a PLC will support, most of which will be common to each system. We have found that the use of generic descriptions of how to test a device and automatic generation of specific test sheets from a database saves a considerable amount of time when testing new systems. There are some software tools available, such as simulation software, that can aid testing. However, this software must be validated before use. 

Hardware requirements were similar for all the programs tested (IBM PC compatibility, 384-640 K of memory, a hard disk drive). Two programs, QSA/Plus and SAMPO 90, also required a maths co-processor. The QSA/Plus program had to be installed in Windows 3.0. All of the other programs operated directly from DOS. Except for GAMMA-W, all the programs control data acquisition. GAMMA-W, which is written by an independent company that does not manufacture nuclear instrumentation, does not allow the user to read ten different formats of y-ray spectra. The conclusions reached by the authors were as follows. 

The US Environmental Protection Agency has classified isophorone as a possible human carcinogen. The National Toxicology Program tested isophorone for evidence of carcinogenicity and found the following male rat - some evidence female rat - no evidence male mice - equivocal evidence female mice - no evidence. European Risk Phrases suggest there is possible risk of irreversible effects upon repeated overexposure.
