Environmental RouteNet provides a single gateway to the world s foremost databases and information sources available on the Internet. The sendee includes searchable links to hundreds of carefully-screened environmentally-related resources, selected and indexed by the editors at Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. In addition, the site provides access to proprietaiy environmentally-related databases and to daily updates of environmentally-related news stories, regulations and legislation, plus much, much more. 

In the case of European legislation there is a published information source that contains many of the relevant documents. This is the hard copy or electronic version of the multiple volumes of The Rules Governing Medicinal Products in the European Union. The most convenient way to obtain these documents—which will eventually consist of nine volumes, some of which will have several parts—is via the internet. The Internet, for many professionals, has become a favorite, convenient source for free information. The Internet is a vehicle to access a diverse array of information sources, including federal and state government documents and regulations, statements, opinions and guidelines from associations and organizations, and pharmaceutical industry documents. While the Internet is indeed powerful, it is a retrieval mechanism and the WWW site itself is the resource to be considered for relevance to the current search. The convenience of WWW resources can be quickly overshadowed by the time invested in the search and following linkages. 

Internet sources include online editions of traditional sources such as periodicals and books available through Web technology new collective sites of information, including Internet-based databases using Web, file transfer protocol (FTP),...

Since we are a consulting firm, many of our clients come to us with problems relating to consumer products that can be found in and around the home, including toothpaste, shampoo, food products, and the like. The scavenger hunt activity identifies a number of chemicals that we often have needed in our stock and that can be found in a number of these consumer products. It then asks you to find a consumer product in which each chemical is found and investigate the various information sources and find the answer to some questions about these chemicals. You will notice that the activity calls for you to look up the MSDS sheet and find certain specific information. This also gives you valuable experience with the MSDS sheet. You may use the MSDS sheets found in the lab or look them up on the Internet. 

The Internet as an information source -since many university departments have home pages on the World Wide Web, searches using relevant key words may indicate where research in your area is currently being carried out. Academics usually respond positively to e-mailed questions about their area of expertise. 

Many relatively inexpensive sources of information about stakeholders are aveiilable via online databases. This is especially true for Internet-based information sources. With these sources, a wide variety of questions can be answered. How laige is the population of stakeholders How are they distributed, organizationally and geographically What is the size of their incomes How do they spend it ...

Thirty years ago the first edition of this book was published in German. The concept of the work - at that time printed in leaden letters - was a cheap information source for students. Today our world is characterized by high-speed developments and more principal approaches in comparison to the past. Therefore, the authors put the question Is it reasonable in the Internet age to write scientific books and -if yes - for whom and in which language ... 

Traditional ERP providers are also getting involved in this market. For example, Baan (www.Baan.com) came up with iBaan Portal to provide end-users with access through standard internet browsers, to all company information sources, whether it is stored in disparate data sources, behind different web addresses or within different applications, folders, documents, or messages. ...

Consists of the Data, Ack, Request or Command, Protocol Information, Source and Destination IP Address, Port Error Checking Code, etc. Filtering consists of examining incoming and outgoing packets compared with a set of rules for allowing and disallowing transmission or acceptance. Rather fast because it really does not check any data in the packet except IP header. Works in the network layer (internet) of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. Fast but not foolproof. IP address can be spoofed.

A word of caution is necessary. The Internet can be a source of the most up-to-date information and can be far more convenient than waiting for books and articles to be delivered, or a trip to a distant library. However, I feel duty bound to remind readers that, as well as holding the up-to-date information, the Internet is also a vast repository of ancient, irrelevant, inaccurate and out-of date information. It is up to the user to check the pedigree, and date, of all downloaded material. 1 believe the links that I have quoted to be reliable. Because the Internet is essentially an ephemeral entity, reorganization of a website can result in URLs becoming inactive. Usually, however, the information will still be available on the parent site somewhere, but will need looking for. 

Monitor hourly prediction against actual hourly demand using the system, forecasting tools, weather, Internet information source (BBC), and local knowledge to see whether demand is/will be balanced...

The contents include all kinds of searching possibilities, numerous suggestions of Web sources arranged topically, and a detailed index. 

Lord, C.R. 2000. Guide to Information Sources in Engineering. Englewood, CO Libraries Unlimited. This book is divided up by format (handbooks, grey literature, journals, Internet resources, etc.) and then subdivided by engineering specialty. Aeronautical and aerospace entries have their own section under most formats.
