To help you find the information you need quickly, use the Scavenger Hunt below to learn where things are located in Chapter 1. [Pg.181]

Bone is found occasionally on archaeological sites when conditions of preservation permit. Bone most often occurs at the inedible waste of meals or the remains of human burial. In addition, bone and other skeletal tissue from animals (teeth, antler, shell, horn) was often used to make certain kinds of tools and equipment. Archaeozoologists are trained to identify the genus and species of animal from small pieces of bone, as well as to determine the age and sex of the animals, how bone was fragmented, and how many individual animals are represented in a set of bones. Bone can answer questions about whether animals were scavenged, hunted, or herded, their age and sex, about how animals were butchered, about how important meat was to the diet, when animals died, and the process of domestication. [Pg.49]

Therefore, I am requesting that all of our laboratory workers obtain a copy of the activity I have written called A Chemical Scavenger Hunt and try to complete it in the next week. [Pg.60]

Since we are a consulting firm, many of our clients come to us with problems relating to consumer products that can be found in and around the home, including toothpaste, shampoo, food products, and the like. The scavenger hunt activity identifies a number of chemicals that we often have needed in our stock and that can be found in a number of these consumer products. It then asks you to find a consumer product in which each chemical is found and investigate the various information sources and find the answer to some questions about these chemicals. You will notice that the activity calls for you to look up the MSDS sheet and find certain specific information. This also gives you valuable experience with the MSDS sheet. You may use the MSDS sheets found in the lab or look them up on the Internet. [Pg.60]

Additional Value Stream Map Waste Scavenger Hunt (Muda Check) A value stream map was created when the project was in the concept stage. At this developmental phase, an additional flowchart is made to depict the proposed design. Muda, as previously stated, encompasses all activity that wastefully consumes resources but does not add value. [Pg.262]

A Muda check takes place as a waste scavenger hunt to further minimize the possibilities of product defects, overproduction, excessive product handling, idle and waiting time by operating personnel, and excessive inventory and to improve efficiency in processing and encourage the best possible use of employee skills. All levels of personnel are involved. [Pg.262]
