The hazards associated with handling pigments is contained ia the MSDS mandated by an OSHA Hazards Communication Standard (28) which also requires labeling and employee information and training. [Pg.37]

The information and training that should be provided along these channels is summarized in this section. [Pg.118]

Education can effectively minimize exposure to hazardous substances. Information and training has been provided to health care providers in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, concerning biological monitoring and potential adverse health effects in people exposed to lead and cadmium. The general public also has been advised about potential adverse health effects associated with exposure to lead and cadmium. [Pg.80]

Heavy metals, like lead and mercury, have been recognized as toxic poisons for centuries. Further, toxic concentrations of mercury, for example, can trigger several effects like autoimmune diseases, infections, unexplained chronic fatigue, depression, nerve impairment, memory problems, decreased mental clarity, and bowel disorders. For several decades, mercury vapor exposure has caused severe health problems among chloralkali workers. This is only an example. It may be repeated that education can effectively minimize exposure to hazardous metals. Basic information and training for proper handling of toxic chemicals will reduce potential adverse health effects. [Pg.80]

Information and Training. The following personal work practices have been found to be important factors in minimizing potential exposure when weighing samples. [Pg.399]

If the change is approved, startup cannot proceed until the Pre-Startup Review is completed (line 8) and the SLS or DH signs off on line 9. To proceed with the change any affected documentation is updated, and the change is engineered and constructed. Any requirements identified for later completion are suspended as required. People whose job tasks will be affected by the change are informed and trained in the change prior to startup of the process. Individuals who are off shift or absent are trained upon resumption of their job responsibilities. [Pg.265]

Prior to startup of new facilities or facilities that have undergone changes, a Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) must be performed by a supervisor of the affected process unit. If the supervisor is assured that construction and equipment are in accordance with design specifications and that affected procedures, process safety information, and training are updated, he completes the PSSR Form 11—3. If any of the pre-startup requirements have not been met satisfactorily, the supervisor sees to it that the deficiencies are corrected and... [Pg.265]

Personnel should be informed and trained on the significance of these numbers and colors and how to handle these chemicals to avoid any incident. Clear information should be given on the pressure in a line carrying any chemical, inflammable or toxic, and at what temperature these chemicals should be pumped. Do they radiate or explode on absorbing moisture or oxygen from air These are the technicalities that shovild be in the mind of personnel who are working with these chemicals. [Pg.27]

The Society has a history of collaboration and outreach. The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), 29 CFR 1910.1200, was published in 1983. Shortly thereafter, SCHC and OSHA collaborated to educate stakeholders on the new HCS. Jointly sponsored seminars were held on a regional basis with both OSHA and SCHC participating to inform both members and stakeholders about the HCS. Recently, SCHC and OSHA have signed an alliance to provide information and training on hazard communication, MSDSs, and the new GHS of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. This alliance is another step in the longstanding relationship between SCHC and OSHA to promote effective hazard communication. [Pg.2957]

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), which was established in 1988, aims to protect workers using chemicals by improved communication of hazards. This involves labelling and MSDSs, in English and French, and employee information and training programmes. [Pg.560]

More than one year after withdrawal of the Hazard Identification proposed standard, the new proposed standard (standard) entitled Hazard Communication, was published in the Federal Register, Volume 47, No. 5, Friday, March 19,1982. It proposes that chemical manufacturers assess the hazards of chemicals which they produce and that all employers in SIC Codes 20 through 39 (Division D, Standard Industrial Classification Manual) provide information to their employees about the hazardous chemicals which they use by meems of a hazard communication program, labels, placards, material safety data sheets, and information and training. [Pg.396]
