Inflow

Ultimately, the process might be permanently shut down or given a major revamp. This marks the end of the project, H. If the process is shut down, working capital is recovered, and there may be salvage value, which would create a final cash inflow at the end of the project. [Pg.423]

The flowrate of oil into the wellbore is also influenced by the reservoir properties of permeability (k) and reservoir thickness (h), by the oil properties viscosity (p) and formation volume factor (BJ and by any change in the resistance to flow near the wellbore which is represented by the dimensionless term called skin (S). For semisteady state f/owbehaviour (when the effect of the producing well is seen at all boundaries of the reservoir) the radial inflow for oil into a vertical wellbore is represented by the equation ... [Pg.216]

In gas wells, the inflow equation which determines the production rate of gas (Q) can be expressed as... [Pg.217]

In the simplest case, for a pressure drawdown survey, the radial inflow equation indicates that the bottom hole flowing pressure is proportional to the logarithm of time. From the straight line plot ot pressure against the log (time), the reservoir permeability can be determined, and subsequently the total skin of the well. For a build-up survey, a similar plot (the so-called Horner plot) may be used to determine the same parameters, whose values act as an independent quality check on those derived from the drawdown survey. [Pg.223]

Another large cost associated with incoming water is associated with its movement. Many aquaculture faciUties that utilize surface waters and those that obtain their water from wells other than artesian wells are required to pump the water into their faciUties. Pumping costs can be a major expense, particularly when the faciUty requires continuous inflow. [Pg.19]

General Equation of Motion. Neglecting relativistic effects, the rate of accumulation of mass within a Cartesian volume element dx-dy-dz must equal the sum of the rates of inflow minus outflow. This is expressed by the equation of continuity ... [Pg.87]

If the wastewater flow and strength are highly variable, as in a batch process chemical plant, a variable-volume basin with a variable inflow and a constant outflow is employed to equalize both flow and strength. [Pg.180]

The efficiency of the weathering of rocks in using carbonic acid produced in the carbon cycle is affected by various hydrologic, environmental, and cultural controls. The fact that the principal anion in fresh surface water worldwide almost always is bicarbonate attests to the overriding importance of this process. Exceptions are systems in which evaporite minerals are available for dissolution by groundwater or where human activities are major sources of sulfate or chloride inflow. [Pg.200]

Successful operation of the gaseous diffusion process requires a special, fine-pored diffusion barrier, mechanically rehable and chemically resistant to corrosive attack by the process gas. For an effective separating barrier, the diameter of the pores must approach the range of the mean free path of the gas molecules, and in order to keep the total barrier area required as small as possible, the number of pores per unit area must be large. Seals are needed on the compressors to prevent both the escape of process gas and the inflow of harm fill impurities. Some of the problems of cascade operation are discussed in Reference 16. [Pg.85]

Other types of selective systems employ multiple final control elements or multiple controllers. In some applications, several manipulated variables are used to control a single process variable (also called split-range control). Typical examples include the adjustment of both inflow and outflow from a chemic reactor in order to control reactor pressure or the use of both acid and base to control pH in waste-water treatment. In this approach, the selector chooses from several controller outputs which final control element should be adjusted (Marlin, Process Control, McGraw-Hill, New York, 1995). [Pg.734]

Benefit of Early Cash Flows It pays to receive cash inflows as early as possible and to delay cash outflows as long as possible. [Pg.815]

Throttle bushings (Fig. 10-117) are commonly used with single internal or external seals when sohds are present in the fluid and the inflow of a flushing fluid is not objectionable. These close-clearance bushings are intended to serve as flow restric tions through which the maintenance of a small inward flow of flushing fluid prevents the entrance of a process fluid into the stuffing box. [Pg.942]

Turbines The two types of turbine geometries used in gas turbines are the axial-flow and the radial-inflow type. The axial-flow... [Pg.2509]

Radial-Inflow Turbine The radial-inflow turbine, or inward-flow radial turbine, has been in use for many years. Basically a centrifugal compressor with reversed-flow and opposite rotation, the inward-flow radial turbine is used for smaller loads and over a smaller operational range than the axial turbine. Radial-inflow turbines are only now beginning to be used because little was know about them heretofore. Axial turbines have enjoyed tremendous interest due to their low frontal area, making them suited to the aircraft industiy. However, the axial machine is much longer than the radial machine, making it unsuited for certain vehicular and helicopter applications. Radial turbines are used in turbochargers and in some types of expanders. [Pg.2510]

If hquid droplets form as ihe gas is expanded in the turboexpander, one s first thought may be that a radial inflow design is the last diing to use, but the following explanation will show that this is the only design that can accomphsh expansion efficiently. [Pg.2522]

Development The following discussion relates specifically to the use of what could be called radial-inflow, centrifugal-pump power-recovery turbines. It does not apply to the type of unit nurtured by the hydroelecti ic industry for the 1 ge-horsepower, large-flow, low- to medium-pressure differential area of hydraulic water turbines of the Felton or Francis runner type. There seems to have been little direct transfer of design concepts between these two fields the major manufacturers in the hydroelectric field have thus far made no effort to sell to the process industries, and the physical arrangement of their units, developed from the requirements of the hydroelectric field, is not suitable to most process-plant applications. [Pg.2525]

In addition to the use of techniques to reduce nutrient run-off at source, entry of nutrients to lakes can be reduced by using pre-lake techniques. These include the use of artificial wetlands on inflow streams, the use of iron salt treatment in pre-lake lagoons or by installing treatment plants to remove phosphorus. [Pg.37]

Artificial pumped storage reservoirs, such as those built to supply London, have been constructed to reduce problems with algae. These have a circular design, with pumped inflows which are jetted to mix fully the water colnmn. " However, although these effectively deal with eiitrophic water, they are not solutions which are normally used for rehabilitation of eiitrophic lakes. [Pg.38]

Provide positive control room pressure to prevent inflow of hazardous material... [Pg.32]

Although costlier, when a smoother and faster p.f. correction is desirable, without causing an overvoltage or inflow current, static switchings should be chosen. They have most application in large automatic reactive power controls, as discussed in Section 24.10. [Pg.758]

Centrifugal (radial inflow) turboexpanders are well adapted to such energy conservation schemes and, with recent developments that have increased their reliability, are suitable for unattended service on a 24-hour, 7-day week operational basis. Some of the recent developments include better shaft seals, thrust bearing monitoring, and superior control devices. [Pg.2]

Presently, designs for radial inflow turboexpanders in sizes up to 70 MW are available for use in geothermal power plants. Following are some of the most important features that make turboexpanders ideal for the reeovery of power from the vast available resourees of pressurized gas streams. [Pg.15]

The efficiency of expansion turbines (partial admission axial, full admission axial, and radial inflow turbines) is a function of the following four basic parameters. [Pg.36]
