HTS

Extend the safe useful operation life of major HT/HP power plant items, subject to time-dependent creep and thermal fatigue damage, with benefits in terms of delayed costs for component replacement. [Pg.75]

Abstract An Eddy current method applying a High Temperature Superconductor ( HTS ) DC SQUID sensor operating at Uquid nitrogen temperature (77K) is presented. The method is developed for the detection of surface or surface near defects. We compare the performance of the SQUID system with the performance gained from a commercial Eddy current system, while using identical probes. The experimental data are obtained on defects in gas turbine blades. The advantage of planar conformable probes for the use with the SQUID is discussed. [Pg.297]

Fligh-tech ceramics withstand great mechanical stresses even thin structures and sharp edges are feasible with high reliability. This allows connecting the HT cables reliably to the ceramic part of the tubes directly. Many available resin systems bond easily to ceramics. [Pg.534]

The bonding of the HT cable to the tube reduces production costs and tube length. [Pg.536]

Reactions in which a product remains in the him (as above) are complicated by the fact that the areas of reactant and product are not additive, that is, a nonideal mixed him is formed. Thus Gilby and Alexander [310], in some further studies of the oxidation of unsaturated acids on permanganate substrates, found that mixed hlms of unsaturated acid and dihydroxy acid (the immediate oxidation product) were indeed far from ideal. They were, however, able to ht their data for oleic and erucic acids fairly well by taking into account the separately determined departures from ideality in the mixed hlms. [Pg.155]

Equation XVII-78 turns out to ht type II adsorption isotherms quite well—generally better than does the BET equation. Furthermore, the exact form of the potential function is not very critical if an inverse square dependence is used, the ht tends to be about as good as with the inverse-cube law, and the equation now resembles that for a condensed him in Table XVII-2. Here again, quite similar equations have resulted from deductions based on rather different models. [Pg.628]

Oyy/Ais of the order of hT, as is Since a macroscopic system described by themiodynamics probably has at least about 10 molecules, the uncertainty, i.e. the typical fluctuation, of a measured thennodynamic quantity must be of the order of 10 times that quantity, orders of magnitude below the precision of any current experimental measurement. Consequently we may describe thennodynamic laws and equations as exact . [Pg.376]

Its ratio to the first temi can be seen to be (5 J / 5 Ef) E HT. Since E is proportional to the number of particles in the system A and Ej, is proportional to the number of particles in the composite system N + N, the ratio of the second-order temi to tire first-order temi is proportional to N N + N. Since the reservoir is assumed to be much bigger than the system, (i.e. N) this ratio is negligible, and the truncation of the... [Pg.397]

The electronic wave functions of the different spin-paired systems are not necessarily linearly independent. Writing out the VB wave function shows that one of them may be expressed as a linear combination of the other two. Nevertheless, each of them is obviously a separate chemical entity, that can he clearly distinguished from the other two. [This is readily checked by considering a hypothetical system containing four isotopic H atoms (H, D, T, and U). The anchors will be HD - - TU, HT - - DU, and HU -I- DT],... [Pg.334]
