In addition, THC-containing foods, i.e., hemp oil, beer, and other products, are commercially available for oral consumption. Hemp oil is produced from cannabis seed and is an excellent source of essential amino acids and omega-linoleic and linolenic fatty acids. THC content is dependent upon the effectiveness of cannabis seed cleaning and oil filtration processes. Hemp oil of greater than 300 pg THC/g was available in the U.S. and up to 1,500 pg THC/g in Europe. Currently, hemp oil THC concentrations in the U.S. are low, reflecting the efforts of manufacturers to reduce the amount of THC in hemp oil products. [Pg.663]

In a recent controlled cannabinoid administration study of THC-containing hemp oils and dronabinol, the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of oral THC were evaluated. Up to 14.8 mg of THC was ingested by six volunteers each day in three divided doses with meals for five consecutive days (Nebro et al. 2004). There was a 10-day washout phase between each of the five dosing sessions. THC was quantified in plasma by solid-phase extraction followed by positive chemical ionization GC/MS. THC and 11-OH-THC were rarely detected in plasma following the two lowest doses of 0.39 and 0.47 mg/day THC, while peak plasma... [Pg.663]

THC and 11-OH-THC were negative for all participants and for all doses by 16 h after the last THC dose. Plasma THCCOOH persisted for a longer period of time following the two highest doses of 7.5 mg/day dronabinol and 14.8 mg/day THC in hemp oil. Ohlsson et al. reported that orally administered THC (20 mg in a cookie) yielded low and irregular plasma concentrations compared to intravenous and inhaled THC (Ohlsson et al. 1980). [Pg.675]

The oval fruited bodies, small smooth grey nuts, several millimetres in size and with a fat content of 30-35 %, are crushed and pressed for their oU. The greenish, medium dried hemp oil contains in its glycerides 46-70 % linoleic and 14-28 % linolenic acids. It finds use as edible oU, and serves as a substitute for linseed oil in paint. Apart from that, it is also used for the manufacture of margarine and soft green soap. [Pg.298]

Hemp is produced in about the same regions as flax, as well as in Northern Italy. The plants are 3-15 ft. high. Hemp cultivation is falling rapidly, since hemp for linens is being replaced by jute, and for cables by sisal, manila, or nylon. In the Orient, hashish is obtained from hemp oil. [Pg.579]

Fatty acids that are required by the body but cannot be made in sufficient quantity from other substrates, therefore must be obtained from food and are called essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids and are the parent compounds of the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acid series, respectively. Humans lack the ability to introduce double bonds in fatty acids beyond carbons 9 and 10, Two fatty acids are essential in humans, linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). They are widely distributed in plant oils. In addition, fish, flax, and hemp oils contain the longer-chain omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). [Pg.62]

Indian Hemp Oil is obtained by subjecting the flowering twigs of Cannabis Indica to steam distillation. According to Yalenta the resulting oil is of thin consistency, and possesses an agreeable aromatic odour. It boils between 248 and 268 . Its specific gravity is about 930, and optical rotation - 10 , and it appears to consist chiefly of a sesquiterpene, which has been named cannibene. [Pg.118]

So-caUed siccative oils such as linseed oil and hemp oil (generally not food-compatible), are transformed into resins under the influence of the oxygen contained in air. They are used for the preparation of varnish, paints, etc. [Pg.538]

The analytical methods most widely practised in laboratories for workplace drug testing have been well validated and are highly reliable. However, some problems continue to be of concern. For example, ingestion of certain legitimate food products can result in a urine sample testing positive for a controlled drug. Poppy seeds, widely used in bakery products, contain low concentrations of morphine, and hemp oil contains low concentrations of A -tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive component... [Pg.618]
