A noncompetitive method in which the Ag-Ab-label is detected in the immunochromatographic system without performing any desorption step has been carried out in a microchip format [53], The Ag to be determined is adsorbed onto beads that are introduced into the microchannels, followed by Ab labeled with colloidal gold. Detection of the Ag-Ab-label takes place inside the channel. [Pg.660]

This paper deals with the control of weld depth penetration for cylinders in gold-nickel alloy and tantalum. After introducing the experimental set-up and the samples description, the study and the optimization of the testing are presented for single-sided measurements either in a pulse-echo configuration or when the pump and the probe laser beams are shifted (influence of a thermal phenomenon), and for different kind of laser impact (a line or a circular spot). First, the ultrasonic system is used to detect and to size a flat bottom hole in an aluminium plate. Indeed, when the width of the hole is reduced, its shape is nearly similar to the one of a slot. Then, the optimization is accomplished for... [Pg.693]

Then, the weld depths penetration are controlled in a pulse-echo configuration because the weld bead (of width 2 mm) disturbs the detection when the pump and the probe beams are shifted of 2.2 mm. The results are presented in figure 8 (identical experimental parameters as in figure 7). The slow propagation velocities for gold-nickel alloy involve that the thermal component does not overlap the ultrasonic components, in particular for the echo due to the interaction with a lack of weld penetration. The acoustic response (V shape) is still well observed both for the slot of height 1.7 mm and for a weld depth penetration of 0.8 mm (lack of weld penetration of 1.7 mm), even with the weld bead. This is hopeful with regard to the difficulties encountered by conventional ultrasound in the case of the weld depths penetration. [Pg.698]

As a somewhat anecdotal aside, there has been an interesting question as to whether gold is or is not wet by water, with many publications on either side. This history has been reviewed by Smith [119]. The present consensus seems to be that absolutely pure gold is water-wet and that the reports of non wetting are a documentation of the ease with which gold surface becomes contaminated (see Ref. 120, but also 121). The detection and control of surface contaminants has been discussed by White [121] see also Gaines [122]. [Pg.364]

This represents a large signal for a small number of atoms on the surface. With care, 10 monolayers of gold on silicon can be detected. [Pg.1832]

Figure 8.18 shows an X-ray photoelectron spectrum of gold foil with mercury absorbed onto the surface. Both the gold and mercury doublets result from the removal of a 4/ electron leaving /2 and /2 core states for which L = 3, S = and J = or Less than 0.1 per cent of a monolayer of mercury on a gold surface can be detected in this way. [Pg.313]

Clinical trials for r-IEN-y in RA indicated that the dmg is well tolerated (52). Consistent improvement in tender and swollen joint scores was observed, but a large number of patients were needed in the trial to show statistical significance for r-IEN-y treatment. In certain individuals, responses were remarkable. An additive effect between r-IEN-y and penicillamine was detected. Efficacy was lower when r-IEN-y was combined with gold therapy. Research is continuing. [Pg.40]

In the dispersed-phase amalgam an additional phase of an eutectic of the Ag—Cu system and a reaction ring (2one) of Cu Sn [12019-69-1] around the residual silver alloy particles has been detected. Moreover, disposable electrochemical sensors for the detection of a specific sequence of DNA were realised by immobilising synthetic single-stranded oligonucleotides onto a graphite or a gold screen-printed electrode. Tire probes became hybridised with different concentrations of complementary sequences present in the sample. [Pg.15]

ICP-SFMS (Thermo Finnigan, Flement) with cold vapour generation was developed with a guard electrode and a gold amalgamation device using an Au-sorbent for sample pre-concentration to improve the sensitivity. Instrumental parameters of ICP-SFMS such as take-up time, heating temperature of Au-sorbent, additional gas flow, and sample gas flow were optimized. Detection limit calculated as 3 times the standard deviation of 10 blanks was 0,05 ng/1, RSD = 7-9 %. [Pg.171]

In the many reports on photoelectron spectroscopy, studies on the interface formation between PPVs and metals, focus mainly on the two most commonly used top electrode metals in polymer light emitting device structures, namely aluminum [55-62] and calcium [62-67]. Other metals studied include chromium [55, 68], gold [69], nickel [69], sodium [70, 71], and rubidium [72], For the cases of nickel, gold, and chromium deposited on top of the polymer surfaces, interactions with the polymers are reported [55, 68]. In the case of the interface between PPV on top of metallic chromium, however, no interaction with the polymer was detected [55]. The results concerning the interaction between chromium and PPV indicates two different effects, namely the polymer-on-metal versus the metal-on-polymer interface formation. Next, the PPV interface formation with aluminum and calcium will be discussed in more detail. [Pg.78]
