Additives effectiveness

The older steam drums, which can sustain these additional effects better, have to be removed of their position in the production line because of the bearing and this would be expensive and time consuming. 

Other Substances. Driving under the influence of alcohol cases are compHcated because people sometimes consume alcohol with other substances (11—13). The most common iUicit substances taken with alcohol are marijuana and cocaine (see Table 1) (14). In combination with alcohol, some dmgs have an additive effect. When a blood or urine alcohol sample is tested for alcohol and the result is well below the legal concentration threshold yet the test results are not consistent with the arresting officers observation that the subject was stuporous, further toxicological tests for the possible presence of dmgs are indicated.

Clinical trials for r-IEN-y in RA indicated that the dmg is well tolerated (52). Consistent improvement in tender and swollen joint scores was observed, but a large number of patients were needed in the trial to show statistical significance for r-IEN-y treatment. In certain individuals, responses were remarkable. An additive effect between r-IEN-y and penicillamine was detected. Efficacy was lower when r-IEN-y was combined with gold therapy. Research is continuing. 

The apphcation of vegetable tanning materials has an additive effect on the leather. The more vegetable tannins appHed the more the leather becomes like vegetable-tanned leather. The color is changed, the fullness of feel increases, and the leather can be worked and embossed like vegetable leather. 

An additional effect of the use of an organic medium in the catalyst preparation is creation of mote defects in the crystalline lattice when compared to a catalyst made by the aqueous route (123). These defects persist in the active phase and are thought to result in creation of strong Lewis acid sites on the surface of the catalysts (123,127). These sites ate viewed as being responsible for the activation of butane on the catalyst surface by means of abstraction of a hydrogen atom. 

Additive effects involve materials producing similar toxic effects where the magnitude of the response is numerically equal to the sum of the effect produced by each individual material. 

The use of vitamins in humans consumes ca 40% of vitamins made worldwide. The majority of the vitamins, particularly in countries outside the United States, are used in animal husbandry. It is well estabUshed (21) that vitamins are critical to animal productivity, especially under confined, rapid growth conditions. Newer information (22) has shown that vitamin E added to catde feed has the additional effect of significantly prolonging beef shelf life in stores. Additional appHcations of vitamins exist. A small but growing market segment involves cosmetics (qv) (23). The use of the chemical properties of the vitamins, particularly as antioxidants (qv) in foods and, more recently, in plastics (vitamin E (24)), has emerged as a growing trend. 

The infection can be cured most readily with tetracycline (7), oxytetracycline (3), or chlorotetracycline (20). Metronidazole (1) and iodoquinol (2) are also effective. Additional effective dmgs include paromomycin (8), tinidazole (11), sulfadiazine (25), and carbarsone [121 -59-4] (31, -ureidobenzenearsonic acid, CyH AsN204, Ameban). 

In polycrystalline materials, ion transport within the grain boundary must also be considered. For oxides with close-packed oxygens, the O-ion almost always diffuses much faster in the boundary region than in the bulk. In general, second phases at grain boundaries are less close packed and provide a pathway for more rapid diffusion of ionic species. Thus the simplified picture of bulk ionic conduction is made more complex by these additional effects.

If the amount of metal removal by erosion is significant the surface will probably be continually active. Metal loss will be the additive effect of erosion and active corrosion. Sometimes the erosion rate is higher than that of active corrosion. The material selection judgment can then disregard coirosion and proceed on the basis of erosion resistance provided the corrosion rates of aetive surfaces of the alloys considered are not much different. As an example of magnitudes, a good high-chromium iron may lose metal from erosion only a tenth as fast as do the usual stainless steels.

Procedures Do Not Correspond to the Way the Job Is Actually Done. Procedures are often developed when a system is first commissioned and are seldom revised to take into account changes in the hardware or the operating regime. In addition, procedures are often not written on the basis of a systematic analysis of the task as perceived by the workers or other personnel who have to use them. The remedy for this is to make sure that individuals who are going to use procedures are actively involved in their development. In addition, effective updating and auditing systems need to be in place to ensure that procedures are correct, and available to the persons who need them.
