No products could be identified when 3-alkyl- or 3-aryl-4-methylene-3,4-dihydro-l,2,3-benzotriazines were refluxed in ethanol or p-xylene (75CJC3714). Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 3-adamantyl-l,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one (79) led to the isolation of 1-adamantylbenzazet-2(l//)-one (80) (73JCS(P1)868>. In most other cases the isolation of the benzazetone failed. When l,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one (21) is heated in diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, quin-... [Pg.378]

Physical properties are related to ester-segment structure and concentration in thermoplastic polyether-ester elastomers prepared hy melt transesterification of poly(tetra-methylene ether) glycol with various diols and aromatic diesters. Diols used were 1,4-benzenedimethanol, 1,4-cyclo-hexanedimethanol, and the linear, aliphatic a,m-diols from ethylene glycol to 1,10-decane-diol. Esters used were terephthalate, isophthalate, 4,4 -biphenyldicarboxylate, 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, and m-terphenyl-4,4"-dicarboxyl-ate. Ester-segment structure was found to affect many copolymer properties including ease of synthesis, molecular weight obtained, crystallization rate, elastic recovery, and tensile and tear strengths. [Pg.133]

METHYLENE BROMIDE (74-95-3) CHiBr2 Noncombustible liquid. Incompatible with some alkali metals amines, azo/diazo compounds dialkylzincs, dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethyl formamide, epoxides such as glycidol, ethylene glycol diethyl ether, ethers, nitrides. Mixture with potassium produces a sensitive impact-sensitive explosive material and may react with other metals, forming dangerous materials. [Pg.700]

Some industrial solvents are found on the Proposition 65 list. As of January 1, 1993 (2), benzene, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, methylene chloride, 1,4-dioxane, 2-nitropropane, and perchloroethylene have been listed as substances known to the state of California to cause cancer. Ethyl alcohol in alcoholic beverages, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate, and toluene are listed as substances known to the state of California to cause reproductive toxicity. Because the list is being expanded periodically, it is necessary for a user of industrial solvents to maintain awareness of the Proposition 65 list. [Pg.263]

Butanediol is used entirely as a precursor for other intermediates, polymers, and solvents. Its principal derivatives are tetrahydrofuran, butyrolac-tone, and pyrrolidones. Tetrahydrofuran can be polymerized to polytetra-methylene ether glycol (PTMEG), a key component in manufacturing spandex fibers. Another derivative, 7-butyrolactone, is a solvent used primarily for spinning polyester fibers. Pyrrolidones such as normal methyl pyrrolidone (NMP) are used as extraction solvents for producing lubricating oils. Other pyrrolidone derivatives are used as binders for pharmaceuticals. [Pg.203]

Many VEU oligomers were synthesized using triethylene glycol dlvlnyl ether (TEGDVE) as a reaction solvent in place of methylene chloride. The TEGDVE was not separated from the products. It remained as part of the polymerizable mixture. [Pg.368]
