The three examples related to solvent replacement cover the generation and evaluation of solvent alternatives for Ethyl Glycol Acetate, Ethyl Glycol and Methylene Chloride. Where feasible, the selected solvent alternatives have been tested under conditions of industrial application and/or laboratoiy scale experiments with very encouraging results. [Pg.88]

The above solution procedure has been applied to find replacement solvents for the following solvents Ethyl Glycol Acetate, Ethyl Glycol and Methylene Chloride. These three solvents are extensively used in the paints and ink industry, although, recent studies have shown that they carry an appreciable environmental burden in addition to being found harmful for the health of the people exposed to them (for example, employees in the manufacturing plants and/or consumers). [Pg.92]

The percentage of solids in the dispersion adhesives is 35-55%, in some cases as much as 70%, the rest is water, which after the adhesive application must either be completely evaporated (ventilation time) or diffuse into the joined parts (wood, textiles, concrete, foams, leather). The film formation temperature in types containing plasticizers and flexibilizing additives is lower than in types that are free of plasticizers. Additives, so-called high boilers (ethyl glycol, ethyl glycol acetate, ethylhexanol), are used to bring the film formation temperature down. [Pg.248]

Ethyl glycol acetate [111-15-9] (2-ethoxyethyl acetate) is a colorless, neutral liquid that is partially miscible with water and readily miscible with organic solvents. It has a slight odor. Ethyl glycol acetate dissolves many natural and synthetic resins. Cellulose acetate is swollen. Poly(vinyl chloride), rubber, and polyisobutene are insoluble. It is no longer used in paints due to its teratogenic properties. [Pg.364]

Methoxypropyl acetate [108-65-6] and 2-methoxypropyl acetate are pleasantly smelling liquids that are partially soluble in water, and miscible with organic solvents. Their dissolution properties and evaporation behavior are comparable but not identical to those of ethyl glycol acetate. 1-Methoxypropyl acetate is less toxic than methyl and ethyl glycol acetates 2-methoxypropyl acetate is teratogenic. [Pg.365]

Ethoxypropyl acetate [54839-24-6] is an isomeric mixture containing 1 -ethoxypropyl acetate as the principal component. It is less toxic than ethyl glycol acetate, with which it shares many physical properties. Ethoxypropyl acetate differs from ethyl glycol acetate however as regards dissolution properties. [Pg.365]

Meihoxybutyl acetate [4435-53-4] (butoxyl) is a weakly smelling liquid that is partially soluble in water and miscible with organic solvents. Dissolution properties resemble those of ethyl glycol acetate, but volatility is lower. [Pg.365]

Ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate [763-69-9] is a high-boiling solvent that is a less toxic alternative to ethyl glycol acetate, with a comparable property spectrum. [Pg.365]
