Glass ceramic tiles

The reprocessed blast-ftimace slag in the form of granules can be used as fillers for concretes, asphalts, and as additives in the production of cement, bricks and other building materials. As well, reprocessed blast-furnace slag can be poured into forms for the production of glass-ceramic tiles. [Pg.48]

A flour sample is weighed then mixed with water for a standard time and poured into a glass cuvette. The cuvette is inserted into the instrument, which moves into the measurement position and takes the reflectance reading. The results appear on a LED display and are printed out. The instrument is calibrated with an internal ceramic tile and standardised using a national standard flour. The normal range of flour grades is -5 to +18. [Pg.152]

The equipment needed is determined by the type and extent of the services chosen to provide. Hospitals already utilize laminar flow hoods for aseptic compounding of sterile solutions. The same hoods can be used to compound other sterile products such as eye drops. A balance, preferably electronic, is essential. Ointment slabs (pill tiles), along with spatulas of different types and materials, should be on hand. A few mortars and pestles (both of glass, ceramic, and/or plastic) should be obtained and some glassware. It may not be necessary to buy a roomful of equipment, but one should purchase what is needed to start the service, and build it up as the service grows and expands to different arenas. [Pg.22]

Most of the world s supply of borax now comes from a gigantic open-pit mine near a California town appropriately named Boron. There are now myriad uses for the material that started its technological life as a gold flux. We use it to make glass for car headlights, enamel for stoves and refrigerators, ceramic tiles, antiseptics, bleach for unbleachables, weed killers, and fertilizers. Thin fibers made from elemental boron reinforce resins destined for aircraft and space-vehicle parts. [Pg.199]

Instead, thanks to its high photoactivity, the anatase type is used in a wide range of applications as photocatalytic coatings on various substrates such as glass and ceramic tiles that can photodegrade various noxious or malodorous chemicals, smoke and cooking oil residues under low-intensity near-UV light. [Pg.338]

Clay minerals are frequently platy and a high degree of preferred orientation is required when preparing sample mounts for XRD analysis. This is related to their layer lattice characteristics and atomic sequence normal to the surface of the clay plate. There are numerous ways of preparing orientated mounts, and these include precipitation onto glass slides (Brown, 1953), suction onto unglazed ceramic tiles (Gibbs, 1965 Rich, 1975 Rhoton et al., 1993) and suction onto membrane filters (McAlister and... [Pg.429]

To illustrate the problem for the product developer, one only has to enumerate the soils and surfaces. The soils can vary from simple dust and hair to dirt, hard water spots, and fingerprints to hardened grease, soap scum, and excrement. Although the usual household cleaning tasks are concentrated in only two rooms of the house, kitchen and bathroom, the number of different surfaces encountered are many. In the U.S., for example, there may be Formica , ceramic tiles, grout, lacquered wood, vinyl flooring, painted surfaces, brass, stainless steel, enamel, porcelain, aluminum, chrome, glass, marble, methyl methacrylate, and other types of plastics. All of these materials may occur within only two rooms of the same home ... [Pg.557]

Master standards calibrated by reference to primary standards and usnally in the form of porcelain or opaque glass panels, ceramic tiles, acrylic painted chips, etc. These are maintained with extreme care, nsually at the standards institutes, and are used only to calibrate other secondary standards. Working standards used as a reference for a group of laboratory iirstrumetrt standards. These are usually ceramic or porcelain tiles. [Pg.89]

Several sintered glass and glass-ceramic matrix composites obtained from recycled silicate waste have been reported in the literature [100-106]. These are dense or porous products with potential application as building, decoration or architectural materials, such as wall partition blocks, pavements, wall and floor tiles, thermal insulation, fire protection elements, roofing granules and acoustic tiles. Other possible uses include abrasive media for blasting and polishing applications. [Pg.491]
