Glass ceramic tiles

The reprocessed blast-ftimace slag in the form of granules can be used as fillers for concretes, asphalts, and as additives in the production of cement, bricks and other building materials. As well, reprocessed blast-furnace slag can be poured into forms for the production of glass-ceramic tiles. 

A flour sample is weighed then mixed with water for a standard time and poured into a glass cuvette. The cuvette is inserted into the instrument, which moves into the measurement position and takes the reflectance reading. The results appear on a LED display and are printed out. The instrument is calibrated with an internal ceramic tile and standardised using a national standard flour. The normal range of flour grades is -5 to +18. 

The equipment needed is determined by the type and extent of the services chosen to provide. Hospitals already utilize laminar flow hoods for aseptic compounding of sterile solutions. The same hoods can be used to compound other sterile products such as eye drops. A balance, preferably electronic, is essential. Ointment slabs (pill tiles), along with spatulas of different types and materials, should be on hand. A few mortars and pestles (both of glass, ceramic, and/or plastic) should be obtained and some glassware. It may not be necessary to buy a roomful of equipment, but one should purchase what is needed to start the service, and build it up as the service grows and expands to different arenas.

To illustrate the problem for the product developer, one only has to enumerate the soils and surfaces. Several sintered glass and glass-ceramic matrix composites obtained from recycled silicate waste have been reported in the literature [100-106].
