Pharmaceutical formulations also have direct contact with plastic materials through delivery sets, transfer tubing, and devices, as well as during the phases of their production, via gaskets, filters, and transportation. [Pg.508]

Plate and frame filters (Fig. 9) are made in every conceivable combination of inlet and outlet positions but for good precoating and filter aid suspension, they should have a bottom inlet and a top outlet, and in the larger sizes these should be at opposite ends of the filter. It is absolutely necessary that all air be purged from the filter before precoating is completed. This may be particularly difficult if gasketed filter septa are used. The Filtration Specialist can give the user details as to how to do this. [Pg.169]

Another important area is oriented tapes and webs which are used in the fabrication of porous fiber, fabric, tube, and sheet. These porous articles find applications for protective clothing, waterproof and weatherproof fabrics, gaskets, filter bags, and many other items. [Pg.185]

Plate-and-Frame Filter Presses. In the conventional plate-and-frame press (Fig. 14), a sequence of perforated square, or rectangular, plates alternating with hoUow frames is mounted on suitable supports and pressed together with hydrauHc or screw-driven rams. The plates are covered with a filter cloth which also forms the sealing gasket. The slurry is pumped iato the frames and the filtrate is drained from the plates. [Pg.398]

Both faces of each plate are hollowed to form a chamber for cake accumulation between adjacent plates. This design has the advantage of about half as many joints as a plate-and-frame press, making a tight closure more certain. Figure 18-114 shows some of the features of one type of recessed-plate filter which has a gasket to further minimize leaks. Air can be introduced behind the moth on both sides of each plate to assist cake removal. [Pg.1710]

Routinely replace gaskets when changing filters etc. [Pg.139]

HEPA filters consist of a filter pack sealed into a case. The filter pack or core is made by pleating a continuous web of fiberglass paper back and forth over corrugated separators. The filter pack is sealed into a full-depth wood or steel casing using a elastomeric sealant. Gasketing is a critical item to ensure that the filter passes the air leakage tests. [Pg.1243]

The instruments for the HT-HP filtration test consist essentially of a controlled pressure source, a cell designed to withstand a working pressure of at least 1000 psi, a system for heating the cell, and a suitable frame to hold the cell and the heating system. For filtration tests at temperatures above 200°F, a pressurized collection cell is attached to the delivery tube. The filter cell is equipped with a thermometer well, oil-resistant gaskets, and a support for the filter paper (Whatman No. 50 or the equivalent). A valve on the filtrate delivery tube controls flow from the cell. A nonhazardous gas such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide should be used for the pressure source. [Pg.658]

Because systems are normally not designed for use with this type of fluid, certain aspects should be reviewed with the equipment and fluid suppliers before a decision to use such fluids can be taken. These are compatibility with filters, seals, gaskets, hoses, paints and any non-ferrous metals used in the equipment. Condensation corrosion effect on ferrous metals, fluid-mixing equipment needed, control of microbial infection together with overall maintaining and control of fluid dilution and the disposal of waste fluid must also be considered. Provided such attention is paid to these designs and operating features, the cost reductions have proved very beneficial to the overall plant cost effectiveness. [Pg.864]

Bag filters are perhaps the most widely used of these types of pretreatment equipment, and they are also commonly employed (and highly recommended) for sidestream application in HW boiler circuits. They are reliable and robust and tend to be available in an almost infinite number of permutations. When sizing, specification items to be considered include flow rates, vessel materials, housing and support-basket sizes, pipe sizes, connection threads and flanges, outlet positions, code and pressure ratings, gasket materials, bag shapes, bag materials, and micron ratings. [Pg.325]

Ensure that the actual instrument configuration conforms to what is written under Experimental supplier, models, modifications, consumables (HPLC or GC columns, gaskets, etc.), and software for the main instrument, peripherals (injectors, integrators, computers, printers, plotters, etc.), and ancillary equipment (vortexer, dispensers, balances, centrifuges, filters, tubing, etc.). [Pg.143]

PTFE, known under the trade names Teflon and Fluon, is resistant to all chemicals, except molten alkalies and fluorine, and can be used at temperatures up to 250°C. It is a relatively weak material, but its mechanical strength can be improved by the addition of fillers (glass and carbon fibres). It is expensive and difficult to fabricate. PTFE is used extensively for gaskets and gland packings. As a coating, it is used to confer non-stick properties to surfaces, such as filter plates. It can also be used as a liner for vessels. [Pg.302]

Each Nestpak module in the BiChlor electrolyser is sealed along its perimeter by a combination of a bolted flange and gaskets. This allows the sealing pressure to be controlled around all of the perimeter of each individual Nestpak. In a large-area bipolar filter-press electrolyser, sealing is only achieved with massive compression equipment and even then a variable sealing pressure is likely to exist around the module perimeter. [Pg.248]

The decision to retrofit or install new filters is influenced by plant-specific factors such as the condition of the existing filters, compatibility of the filters to retrofit, availability of space within the plant, etc. Bayer s analysis of the costs and benefits of the retrofit compared to the investment in new filters did not show a clear favourite either decision could be justified. With regard to the rubber lining, gaskets, hydraulic system etc., the Kellys were in very good condition. Because of this, the decision was made to retrofit two of the filters and to use them in a separate brine circuit for the new electrolysers, with a second circuit feeding the amalgam plant. [Pg.287]
