Chelated complexes such as sodium zirconium lactate [15529-67-6] or ammonium zirconium carbonate [22829-17-0] and acidic forms such as zirconium hydroxy oxide chloride [18428-88-1] have been used in preparations in deodorants or for treatment for poison oak and poison ivy dermatitis. In such occasions, when the skin had been cut or abraded, a few users developed granulomas which have been identified as a delayed hypersensitivity to zirconium (99). These may take several weeks to develop, and commonly persist for 6 months to over a year. [Pg.432]

Because of its extreme insolubiUty, barium sulfate is not toxic the usual antidote for poisonous barium compounds is to convert them to barium sulfate by administering sodium or magnesium sulfate. Clara Haber reportedly pleaded with Haber to stop his poison gas work. She visited the training site for poison gas workers and was horrified by experiments conducted on animals. Early in the war, an experiment in the institute laboratory exploded moments after Haber left the room. One scientist lost his hand, and a young physicist, Otto Sackur, one of Clara s classmates at Breslau University, was killed.
