Titanium dioxide is found in nature in three crystal forms anastase, brooldte, and rutile. Haber, Fritz (1868-1934) German Chemist Fritz Haber was born on December 9, 1868, in Breslau, Germany, to Siegfried Haber, a merchant and a member of one of the oldest families of the town. He went to school at the St. Elizabeth classical school at Breslau and conducted many chemistry experiments while still a child. [Pg.121]

Haber, Fritz. (1868-1934). Bom in Breslau, Germany, Haber s great contribution to chemistry, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1918, was his development (with Bosch) of a workable method for synthesizing ammonia by the water-gas reaction from hot coke, air, and steam the gas mixture obtained includes nitrogen from the air, as well as hydrogen from the steam. It was the first successful attempt to fix atmospheric nitrogen in an industrial process. This discovery was developed to production scale in approximately 1912 it enabled Germany to manufacture an independent supply of explosives for World War I. [Pg.628]

Like Lutz Haber, Fritz Stern became a historian and explored the world of his parents, imperial Germany. He wrote about Ger-son von Bleichroder, a Jewish banker who managed the fortunes of Germany s political leaders during the nineteenth century, and about Germany s illiberalism —its rejection of democracy, individual freedom, and tolerance. [Pg.254]
