Feed throughs

Methoprene and hydroprene are first-generation juvenoids that iacorporate minor stmctural optimisation of neotenin to increase persistence. Methoprene, 1-isopropyl (E,E)-ll-methoxy-3,7,ll-tnmethyl dodecadi-2,4-enoate (129) (bp 100 C/6.7 Pa, vp 3.5 mPa at 25°C), is soluble ia water to 1.4 mg/L. The rat oral LD q is >34,000 mg/kg. Methoprene has been used as a mosquito larvicide, ia baits for ant control, and as a catde feed-through treatment for horn fly control. Hydroprene, methyl (H,H)-3,7,ll-trimethyl-dodecadi-2,4-enoate (130) (bp 174°C at 2.5 kPa, vp 2.5 mPa at 25°C), is soluble ia water to 0.54 mg/L. The rat oral LD q is >34,000 mg/kg. Hydroprene is especially effective against aphids and cockroaches. [Pg.294]

Tlie cover assembly usually contains a safety v ent. Tlie most common type consists of a steel or nickel diaphragm built into the cov er and a bent point cut from the cov er. At a certain internal cell pressure, the diaphragm niov es to the bent point and is pierced. Some cylindrical sealed cells use one or more temiinal feed-throughs employing glass-to-metal or ceramic-to-metal techniques. [Pg.550]

The burden must have a definite sohdification temperature to assure proper pickup from the feed pan. This limitation can be overcome by side feeding through an auxiliary rotating spreader roll. Apphcation hmits are further extended by special feed devices for burdens having oxidation-sensitive and/or supercoohng characteristics. The standard double-drum model turns downward, with adjustable roll spacing to control sheet thickness. The newer twin-drum model (Fig. ll-55b) turns upward and, though subject to variable cake thickness, handles viscous and indefinite solidification-temperature-point burden materials well. [Pg.1090]

The immobilised Pectolyase Y-23 was used to perform consecutive depectinisations of a cloudy apple juice in batch reactions. After five reaction cycles, the percentage reduction of viscosity was greater than 90%. The viscosity of the apple juice feed through a bed of inactive y-alumina spheres remains unchanged thus confirming that the viscosity loss attributable to pectin adsorption on the carrier is negligible. The alcohol tests, performed on the juices previously treated with the... [Pg.976]

Treat acute mastitis with antistaphylococcal antibiotics such as dicloxacillin or cephalexin for 10 to 14 days in order to prevent recurrent disease and breast abscess12 (Table 44-5). Penicillin-allergic women alternatively may be treated with erythromycin.12 Occasionally, intravenous antibiotics are needed for resistant, recurrent, or chronic cases. Encourage women to continue breast-feeding through acute mastitis and to empty all leftover milk from the affected breast.12... [Pg.734]

An apparatus for preparing moulding blanks. It is a development of the Barwell ram extruder which feeds through interchangeable dies to give the correct profile of blank, while an electronically operated cutter, working across the face of the die, cuts the blanks. Oil is admitted to the ram of the extruder in controlled quantities, set by a metering device, so that the compound is forced from the die in the correct amount to form each blank. [Pg.13]

A gas oil is cracked at 630 C and 1 atm by passing vaporized feed through a bed of silica-alumina catalyst spheres with radius 0.088 cm. At a feed rate of 0.2 mol/(h)(cc catalyst bed) conversion was 50%. The reaction is pseudo first order. The effective diffusivity is 0.0008 cm2/s. As an approximation, assume a constant volumetric flow rate. Find the effectiveness of the catalyst. [Pg.770]

Table El4.1 A shows various feeds and the corresponding product distribution for a thermal cracker that produces olefins. The possible feeds include ethane, propane, debutanized natural gasoline (DNG), and gas oil, some of which may be fed simultaneously. Based on plant data, eight products are produced in varying proportions according to the following matrix. The capacity to run gas feeds through the cracker is 200,000 lb/stream hour (total flow based on an average mixture). Ethane uses the equivalent of 1.1 lb of capacity per pound of ethane propane 0.9 lb gas oil 0.9 lb/lb and DNG 1.0. This is a universally applicable instrument for determining particle-size distributions of all kinds of solids which can be analysed either in suspension in a measuring cell or dry by feeding through a solid particle feeder. In the Fritsch Analysette 22 laser diffraction apparatus the measured particle-size distribution is displayed on the monitor in various forms, either as a frequency distribution, as a summary curve or in tabular form and can be subsequently recorded on a plotter, stored on hard disk or transferred to a central computer via an interface. The time required for one measurement is approximately 2min. [Pg.442]

Methoprene has been fully registered since 1975 for commercial usage as a mosquito larvicide and for control of horn flies via feed-through application to cattle. In addition, methoprene is registered in Japan for administration to silkworms to enhance silk production. As the only IGR currently (July, 1978) registered, it follows that the environmental fate of methoprene has been investigated in detail. [Pg.169]

The most recent system is a 220 kilowatt fuel cell/gas turbine power plant operating at the University of California s National Fuel Cell Research Center located in Irvine, California. The first-of-a-kind hybrid power plant consists of a 200 kilowatt fuel cell generator pressurized at about 3.5 atmospheres in combination with a 20 kilowatt two-shaft gas turbine. The system was first run at the Pittsburgh facility and started operating at Irvine in June, 2000. Total run time until July, 2000 was 264 hours. Electric energy delivered was 42 megawatt-hours. Electric efficiency was 51% (LHV). An electric power feed-through mounted on the pressure vessel devel-... [Pg.32]

The development of natural resistance in corn (Zea mays) to the corn earworm (CEW) Helicoverpa zea) received many contributions. The CEW is a major insect pest of maize and other crops (cotton, soybeans, etc.) the eggs are laid on the silks, and the larvae access the ear by feeding through the silk channel. [Pg.898]

Supercritical carbon dioxide is depressurized through the expansion valves into separator columns 4 and 5, where the product and the unreacted substrates are recovered. The substrates are collected in column 5 and recycled (added to the feed through the pipe connecting column 5 with the feed vessel). The gas phase is finally vented into the atmosphere after flow-rate measurement through a rotameter. The gas can be condensed and recycled on a pilot- or industrial scale. [Pg.492]

For electrochemical experiments inside the box, one should be certain that there are enough electrical connections and plugs. Few if any of the commercial dry boxes will have enough of these, and they will have to be installed. Connections to the outside world are a source of leaks, and considerable care should be exercised to ensure that the connectors are well sealed. These connectors, called feed throughs, are available from vendors of vacuum-related products. By having enough connections, two or three people can work simultaneously. For example, we have installed two connectors with six contacts on each. Long color-coded wires to the connectors are recommended to avoid confusion. [Pg.576]
