Import and Export

Nuts and oily seed are suitable for exporting and importing. After meeting three conditions they may be safely moved from areas of production to points of consumption, and carried from seasons of heavy crops to times of off production . The conditions are (a) dry to low moisture level to prevent molding (b) fumigate and package securely to prevent insect contamination and (c) refrigerate at 9.8°C (48°F) or lower and at 60% relative humidity. 

To export nuts, an entrepreneur must select a specific geographic area, target groups of end-users and consumers, distribution system, price, form in which nuts will be sold, exchange rate fluctuations, promotion and advertising. An analysis of exports of competing products offers clues on how to approach and successfully solve problems. 

In 1955, the first shipment of 220001b of California almonds reached Japan. The slow growth of exports accelerated as almond plantings increased. In 1970, 68 x 10 lb of California almonds were exported from the United States. The United States entered the world tree nut market in 1970. The entry was the result of growing domestic almond, walnut and pecan production. At the same time, imports of cashew nuts from India, hazel nuts from western Europe, pistachio nuts from Israel, Brazil nuts from South America, and coconuts from the Philippines have continued. 

Before about 1950, most exported nuts were inshell and poorly graded and packaged. In recent decades more processing has been done near the point of origin, to give employment to natives and reduce weight and volume.

PROC CDISC is a SAS procedure available as a hot fix for SAS 8.2 that ships as part of SAS 9.1.3. The maximum speed of the LH2 carrier is about 17.5 kn (32.4 km/h). The propulsion power is 41 MW. The propulsion of the SWATH carrier is based on a steam-injection gas turbine with an efficiency of 50% (Wursig, 1996). The investment for the SWATH carrier is indicated at about 440 million, including five LH2 tanks. The investment for one LH2 tank is 40 million. The investment for the LH2 terminals (both export and import terminal) is indicated at about 820 million (G. M. Wursig, Germanischer Lloyd, Hamburg, personal communication, January 1999). 

The actual operation of China s trade policy, therefore, is mainly carried out in accordance with governmental trade agreements. After these agreements are concluded, arrangements are made based on long-range treaties and the policy of maintaining a balance between exports and imports.

Natural gas production on a worldwide basis has also continued to increase (5). Worldwide natural gas production increased at a rate of approximately 2.5%/yr for the period 1980—1985 and at a rate of approximately 3.7%/yr for the period 1986—1990.
