The fact that allyltributyltin and styrene which are electroneutral were successfully added to PCTFE led us to the question "Can electron-rich or electron-poor trapping agents be used ". The electron-rich agents that we examined were ethyl ethynyl ether and ethyl vinyl ether. On the side of the electron-poor alkenes, eight were investigated ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, methyl vinyl ketone, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl bromide, chloromethyl styrene, and 4-vinylpyridine. The details of each reaction are summarized. [Pg.142]

Also N-phenylmaleimide reacted as 1,3-d ipola renophile with 346 producing the tetra hydrofu ro[2,3-d]-l,2,3-triazole 441. However, 326 failed to react with acrylonitrile, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, or fumaronitrile. [Pg.75]

A 62 35 3 ethyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate-acrylic acid copolymer latex was prepared by continuous addition of the monomer mixture over a 4-hour period at 80° (22). The emulsifier was a sodium lauryl ether sulfate-nonylphenol polyoxyethylene adduct (20 moles ethylene oxide) mixture, the initiator a potassium persulfate-sodium hydroxulfite mixture, and the buffer a sodium bicarbonate-potassium hydroxide mixture. The final latex of pH 6.5 contained 40% solids, and the Tg of the copolymer was 13°. [Pg.85]

Other trialkyltin-containing monomers such as 3-tributyltinstyrene (84), tributyltin methacrylate (85) and 4-[bis(trimethylstannyl)methyl]styrene (86) were also reported to homo- and copolymerise with styrene under radical conditions175-177. In addition, 3-tributyltinstyrene (84) was copolymerised under radical conditions with ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate and acrylonitrile175. A functional methacrylate-based polymer was prepared by the copolymerization of the triorganotin methacrylate monomer 87 with styrene and divinylbenzene178,179. [Pg.1584]

Jagodic et al. (1975, 1976) also studied the effect of the HLB of emulsifying agents in the emulsion homopolymerization of methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, and acrylonitrile and in the emulsion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and... [Pg.226]

The permeability and water uptake of Eudragit RS or RL [chemical name, poly(ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, trimethylammonioethyl methacrylate chloride)], can be influenced by the presence of different counterions in the release medium. It was found that theophylline was released faster from Eudragit RS-coated pellets, when succinic, acetic, glutaric, tartaric, malic, or citric acid are present in the release medium. Increased permeability was explained by the higher hydration of the film, also expressed as the free volume. ... [Pg.1290]

Much effort has been devoted over the last few years to preparing branched cellulose or cellulose derivatives, by combining the cellulose backbone with a synthetic polymer which confers desirable properties. The length of these branches or grafts varies considerably, depending on the copolymerization conditions. The most widely used monomers are acrylic and vinyl monomers, with the following order of reactivity [16] ethyl acrylate > methyl methacrylate > acrylonitrile > acrylamide > styrene. [Pg.211]

Many acrylic copolymers are currently used in the textile industry as binders for nonwoven fabrics. The purpose of these fibers is to stabilize the material. In many instances, these copolymers are used in conjunction with amino resins. Casanovas and Rovira have done a study of methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate-N-methylol-acrylamide by PY/GC-MS. Among the products identified were methane, ethylene, propene, isobutene, methanol, propionaldehyde, ethanol, ethyl acetate, methyl acrylate, methyl isobutyrate, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, n-propyl acrylate, and ethyl methacrylate. In this sample, clearly monomer reversion is the primary degradation process occurring however, several other degradation mechanisms are at work. When the sample contains an amino resin in the mixture, acrylonitrile is observed in the pyrogram. Another effect of the amino presence was a marked increase in the amount of methanol detected. Other products detected were meth-oxyhydrazine, methyl isocyanate, and methyl isocyanide. [Pg.239]

Various vinyl monomers were grafted onto nylon fibers by using benzoyl peroxide in the presence of inorganic salts such as sodium or potassium chloride and sodium or potassium sulfate[42,43]. The vinyl monomers include acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, styrene, acrylonitrile, and mixtures of these monomers. Sakurada. et al. [43,44] investigated grafting eflBciency for various radical initiators. They foimd that pero disulfate systems... [Pg.445]

Pinishes are applied to the PAN fiber to improve handling and include silicones (modified polysiloxanes) [132] and trimethylol propane-ethylene oxide adduct [133-135]. These finishes are burned off in the latter stages of stabilization, or in the initial stages of the low temperature carbonization furnace and the breakdown products should be volatile to permit removal. At one time, it was common practice to use adventitious sizes applied prior to the stabilization stage to protect the cosmetics of the oxidized fiber during oxidation. These sizes should preferably break down into gaseous components at about 200° C and typical sizes are the ammonium salt of polystyrene maleic anhydride copolymer, ethyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate and polyacrylic acid. [Pg.145]

Details are given of the preparation of nanoparticle suspensions of ethyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate copolymers and loaded with flurbiprofen. The availability of the drug at an intra-ocular level for the prevention of the myosis induced during extracapsular cataract surgery was investigated. Nanosuspensions were prepared by a quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion technique using different formulation parameters. 34 refs. [Pg.75]

Ethyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate copolymers were provided by the Rohm and Haas Co. and films were formed on the impedometer at temperatures which bracketed their minimum film-forming temperatures (MFT). The value of G above w jch a coherent film could not be obtained was ca. 10" dynes/cm which constituted the practical limit of operation of the device. [Pg.177]
