Emergency response drills

An Emergency Action Plan should be established, assigning an emergency control center and appropriate personnel for emergency response. Drills should be carried out to assure all personnel are familiar with these plans. 

Recognize the importance of maintaining one s expertise and knowledge in this area of practice and of participating in regular emergency response drills. 

Participate in regular emergency response drills in the community or place of employment. 

Emergency preparedness the CER has a section on emergency planning and response that discusses liaison with local emergency response teams and includes a chart showing the number of emergency response drills carried out in the four divisions in 1998 and 1999. Approximately 90 took place within Ashland Distribution, 50 in Ashland Specialty Chemicals, 40 in Valvoline and 25 in APAC. 

Emergency preparedness specific mention is made in the CER that each plant conducted emergency response drills during the year, but no mention is made of the involvement of local statutory authorities in emergency action planning.

A CDC is not able to assess the level of threat of a terrorist nuclear attack. However, for many years CDC has participated regularly in emergency-response drilLs where we have worked closely with other federal, state, and local agencies to develop, test, and implement extensive national radiological emergency- response plans. 

In an industrial environment, responding to an emergency is done according to a specific set of standards. Emergency response drills are carefully planned and include preparations for worst-case scenarios for example, vapor releases, chemical spills, explosions, fires, equipment failure, hurricane, high winds, loss of power, and bomb threats or actual bombings.

Chlorine Institute. Members of the Chlorine Institute are required to reaffirm their commitment to the Institute s safety pledge, including prevention of chlorine releases. Are there appropriate planning, training, drills, and equipment for response to emergencies If yes, ask to review the emergency response plan and training records. Be aware that for some facilities, an acceptable plan is to evacuate and call the fire department.

Once active, you must meet further requirements to maintain active status. These include completion of technician-level training and certification in hazardous material (hazmat) operations. In addition, after becoming a member, you must also attend a minimum of 50% of all drills conducted by F.A.S.T. and go to at least one F.A.S.T. conference. You may qualify for alternative credit for drills by proving previous experience in actual hazmat emergency response.

Residences, churches, and small businesses may also want to consider holding routine emergency response practice drills to ensure that family members and employees know how to implement the emergency preparedness plan. 

Functional drill The purpose of a functional drill is to test an individual component of the emergency response plan. The drill could test the communication system, emergency operations center, evacuation, or the shelter-in-place plan. 12 months...

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission consistently rates STP s performance in safety drills as excellent, and has formally commended the firm s emergency response plan as an industry model.
